Have an interview coming up, but unsure how to prepare for it? Below are some of my key tips to help make you stand-out from the rest and put your best foot forward 🌟 ✨ RESEARCH Deep-dive into the company website, reviewing any recent news, background, and values, and have a cheeky LinkedIn stalk of the panel you're meeting with (if you know who you're meeting). Demonstrating your knowledge shows your genuine interest in both the role and the organisation, and that this isn't just another interview for you. ✨ KNOW YOUR RESUME, AND KNOW THE ROLE Make sure you're ready to discuss any aspect of your career history. Your experience, skills, and achievements are unique to you, so ensure you can highlight your capabilities. Have another in-depth read of the job description, so you know how to match your experience to the requirements. ✨ PRACTICE QUESTIONS AND RESPONSES Familiarise yourself with the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) technique to answer any question; or, more simply, utilise your experience to provide concrete examples to provide excellent answers. You can even ask your partner/flatmate/friend/ChatGPT to ask you some practice questions, so you're ready for anything! ✨ HAVE QUESTIONS PREPARED FOR THE INTERVIEW PANEL At the end of the interview, asking thoughtful questions about the team, role, culture, and expectations highlights your enthusiasm and interest in the position. Don't be afraid to ask the hard questions too, such as "Are there any concerns you have about me that we can address before we end?". This also shows your engagement with the interview panel throughout. ✨MAKE A MEMORABLE FIRST IMPRESSION Plan your route to the interview location ahead of time, jump on the Teams meeting 10 minutes early, and dress the part. Make sure you speak clearly and confidently, and allow your personality to shine. Remember, an interview isn't just an opportunity to showcase your skillset, but also to sell yourself to a prospective employer. Stay authentic, positive, and focus on your strengths.
