‼ 80 Million Km of grids ‼ That is the AMAZING amount of networks ⚡ to be built or replaced for meeting global energy and climate goals. What 80 million km are?... the equivalent of making 200 times the full tour of the Earth… One of the most traditional part of the energy system; an infrastructure that we start building centuries ago, has become one of the most important enabler of the global energy transition. With electricity demand growing fast, demand centers becoming more dispersed and electricity generation more and more distributed, there is a dramatic need for increasing the “motorways of electrons” – and make those modern and digital. . #energy #data #electricity #sustainability #innovation #future #technology

Power lines are key to moving the electiricity generated by renewable energy to where customers use the electricity. With extra demand may mean higher prices for power lines and installation. How much money will all this new infrastructure cost? Who will pay?

And why would we do this globally? When a perfect solution to CO2 emissions combined with abundant on demand electricity at much lower prices to the consumer is available Nuclear power The mad zealots of wind and solar solving 100% of emissions is simply ludicrous

A huge number for #grids development all around the world. Still a couple of thoughts to be remembered: 1) The evolution and roll out will be very diverse from country to country and even from region to region. Rolling out grids is not just about having the business case to do it but permitting, land use, timing from generation to demand points 2) We discussed and talked a lot about it - in particular Europe does. We are not still there and new Commiasion will need to discuss and take decision to enhance this 3) Energy systems will electrify and so the economy but it will not be all about electrifying. There is much more that needs equal attention. 4) Electrifying and rolling out grids in #Europe will have to support an imperative goal: help industrialising existing and future assets. More to come.

As Alessandro points out in his post, the challenges in transmission are enormous. Securing rights of way in many locations has proven to be a Labyrinthine task with very low chances of success. HVDC and other optimization technologies for highly efficient Smart Grids are logical options. But we can also explore a different direction: Microgrids, as Alessandro also suggests by mentioning distributed generation. Microgrids have their own labyrinth regarding deregulation and business models but they are certainly worth exploring too.

The days of generating and transporting electrons over long distances are over. Local energy generation using clean and sustainable technology provides affordable and secure energy. https://lnkd.in/enBmU7He The insanity of "Circling the Earth over 200 times in a network of power stations, pylons and substations" is a disaster from an ecological and financial stance. The energy/mass balance, pollution and environmental / biodiversity damage makes this model a non starter. The fossil fuel, / carbon / methane / particulates, toxic chemicals and waste involved in the mining/transport of the rocks and raw materials, plus the steel making and onward transportation plus the construction and maintenance of the infrastructure will trigger multiple climate and ecological tipping points. The final nail in the "electrical grid coffin" is that once completed, the massive infrastructure becomes an enabler for the fossil fuel and energy corporates to continue "business as usual"... More oil and gas power stations pumping lethal amounts of methane, carbon and toxins into the air, rivers and oceans whilst claiming their "forever under development next gen CCS" technology will actually work...
