If you're at #Stonehenge today, you could make yourself very unpopular by mentioning that the #Druids would have gathered there to observe the midwinter sunset (not the midsummer sunrise) by looking in the opposite direction past the same stones. We know this because of various #neolithic buildings that only do interesting things for the winter #solstice, such as the spoon-shaped thing where the round bit is a tomb and the handle is a long tunnel which the sun only shines down at the midwinter sunset. There are no examples of buildings that do interesting things for the midsummer sunrise. In fact, cultures all over the world tend to have festivals for harvest, midwinter and spring, but rarely anything for #midsummer because its of no practical consequence.

Wishing You a Holi Full of Laughter, Love, and Colorful Moments! Dear All, As we gear up to celebrate the vibrant festival of colors, I want to extend my warmest wishes to each one of you for a joyful and colorful Holi! This Holi let's remember to celebrate in an environmentally friendly way. While we spread joy and happiness with colors, let's also be mindful of our surroundings. - Use eco-friendly colors made from natural ingredients like turmeric, beetroot, and flowers. Let's avoid harmful chemical-based colors that can harm the environment and our health. - Opt for water-saving techniques such as using dry colors or limited water usage during celebrations. Conserving water is crucial for our environment. - After the festivities, let's clean up responsibly. Dispose of waste properly and recycle whenever possible. Let's leave our surroundings cleaner and greener than we found them. - Spread awareness among friends and family about the importance of celebrating Holi in an environmentally friendly way. Together, we can make a positive impact on our planet. May this Holi bring you all immense joy, love, and prosperity. Let's celebrate responsibly and cherish the beauty of nature around us. Wishing you a safe and happy Holi!

How restaurants celebrate the Moon Festival with Barbecue (烤肉 kǎoròu)? We don't just love to eat, but also… We love gazing at the moon, gathering with family and friends, savoring mooncakes and pomelos, and barbecuing outdoors. Enjoy sharing the story about the Moon Festival: Chang'e flying to the moon, Wu Gang chopping the laurel tree, and the Jade Rabbit. Did you know? The Moon Festival has a rich history spanning over 3 millennia. Originally a harvest celebration, it evolved into a time for "gratitude" and "hope". Picture families gathering under the full moon, sharing stories and mooncakes. 🥮 It's a "Reunion Festival," bringing loved ones together from near and far. But it's not just about family! Many companies join the festivities too, showing appreciation for their employees with special gifts or bonuses or both. And in recent years, the festival has taken on new life with grand public celebrations. Imagine streets alive with cultural performances, the aroma of delicious food stalls, and dazzling fireworks lighting up the night sky. How can we experience the Moon Festival? Good To Eat Dumplings is bringing Taiwanese culture to Emeryville. Activities to consider for next weekend (September 15–17)

How progressive is placemaking? This question is going to become more critical as placemaking gathers pace. You can gauge placemaking’s popularity by the increasing use of it in circles beyond the built environment. Already, the definition has broadened – it’s no longer solely to do with public spaces. Nor is it the preserve of professionals. There are growing examples of residents regenerating areas for communities on their own initiatives. Where next for placemaking? We want to help shape its future at Pattern Festival 2024. This is a boutique placemaking event taking place in Central Manchester next month. Make sure you get your voice heard. Pattern Festival 2024 is on 19 June at x+why, Victoria Embankment, Manchester. There are a limited number of tickets available.
