Check out your town/neighborhood's tree canopy cover. Looking for some good news. In 2022, #AB_2251 #Asm.Calderon passed legislation requiring Dept. of Forestry and Fire Prevention develop a tree canopy plan by 6/30/2025. The strategic plan will increase disadvantaged communities' tree canopy cover by 10% no later than 2035. Do you think the study should go farther?

Smallholder Agribusiness Developer | Agri-value Chain Specialist | Funding Proposal Writer | Climate change Technical consultant
Hushe Mzenda is spot on, however, I would claim that district extension officers have a capacity gap in #businessdevelopment concepts. The first step would be to capacitate them with fundamentals of why there is need for horizontal and vertical #coordination to integrate #smallholderfarmers into mainstream #valuechains. For long, #agronomic excellence skills although very critical, have characterised key skills consistent with such positions. I would go on to say this is the key reason why agricultural #producerorganisations have remained #institutionally "traditional", and have failed to take off not just in #Zimbabwe but in most emerging economies. #capacitybuilding
Hushe Mzenda, HDC Horticulture Development Coordinator speaks on the benefits of outgrower partnerships, such as the one we are building with Monty’s: “With Monty's, we can change the landscape of communities working with Agritex and the Ministry of Small to Medium Enterprises and Community Development, to integrate farmers into mainstream value chains. But there has to be a willingness for District Agriculture Extension Officers to drive such opportunities and integrate them into local development plans to achieve Rural Development 8.0, generate jobs and sustainable livelihoods".
