Welcome to October—Domestic Violence Awareness Month! A time dedicated to raising awareness about the harsh realities of domestic abuse, offering support to survivors, and educating communities about the lasting impacts of trauma. Domestic violence goes far beyond physical harm—it can be emotional, psychological, financial, and even digital. It impacts millions of people worldwide, leaving scars that can last for years. This month, I’ll be breaking down the myths, sharing facts, and highlighting the invisible wounds that domestic abuse can leave behind. Why It Matters: * 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. *Domestic violence doesn’t just affect the individual—it impacts families, children, and entire communities. *Survivors often face years of emotional recovery, including anxiety, PTSD, physical illness, and depression. Throughout October, I’ll be sharing stories, facts, and resources to help shed light on the many faces of domestic abuse of my years spent in Barnardo's and Womens Aid. Together, we can spread awareness, break the silence, and offer hope and support to those affected. Join me in creating a space for education, understanding, and healing. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #EndDomesticViolence #breakthesilence #SupportSurvivors #breakthecycle #family #healing #rebalancemum #radiantrebalance

The recent events at Bondi Junction have left us all feeling devastated, and our thoughts are with the families, first responders, and everyone affected by this tragic situation. As we process this tragedy, it is crucial to consider the impact of ongoing media coverage on our children. Media coverage, whether on TV or online, is constantly available and can be replayed multiple times. While these events are traumatic for adults, they can be even more overwhelming for children. It is important for us to be mindful of how we discuss these events with our children and the potential impact it may have on their mental well-being. In the link below we have shared a link to a factsheet from Emerging Minds, which provides guidance on how to talk to children about violent events in age-appropriate ways. We hope that this resource will be helpful in navigating this difficult conversation with your family. Please remember to take care of yourselves and each other during this challenging time, and Kids helpline is also available 24 hours a day 7 days a week on 1800 55 1800. https://lnkd.in/gFWNH5Mw

We support Edmonton & area communities to help families to be safe and ultimately live free of family violence
Today we'd like to share a resource from domesticshelters.org on the subject of polyvictimization. Polyvictimization refers to experiencing multiple types of traumas or victimizations such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, exposure to family violence, neglect and bullying, and usually at the hands of multiple perpetrators. It’s critical to know if a victim of abuse or other trauma has also been subjected to various traumas as this combined experience can play a part in both the long-term health effects and the types of services this person needs going forward. Some research suggests that polyvictimization is more detrimental than experiencing multiple incidents of the same trauma repeatedly. Interested in learning more? 🌟 It’s R U OK? Day Tomorrow! 🌟 R U OK? Day is a national initiative focused on suicide prevention through fostering meaningful connections and encouraging supportive conversations during difficult times. At Access Industries, we’re dedicated to advancing R U OK? Day’s mission by empowering individuals to develop the motivation, confidence, and skills needed to support others—whether they’re friends, family, or colleagues. Today, let’s concentrate on: - Asking: Reach out and inquire, “Are you okay?” - Listening: Provide a caring and empathetic ear. - Supporting: Assist in connecting them with necessary resources. By strengthening our personal connections and being mindful of those around us, we contribute to suicide prevention efforts and create a more supportive community. I don't know who needs to hear this: You deserve respect and dignity. You weren't meant to endure abuse. Seek help, and you will find a world ready to embrace you. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month! Domestic violence affects over 10 million people in the United States each year. It's a pattern of behaviors used to maintain power and control over a partner, manifesting through physical harm, intimidation, emotional abuse, financial abuse and more. The impact of domestic violence on children is particularly concerning. One in 15 children witnesses intimate partner violence annually, leading to potential long-term effects like PTSD, behavioral challenges, and academic difficulties. Despite these challenges, I'm truly thankful for the National CASA/GAL’s network of 88,000 volunteers. These incredible advocates provide vital support to thousands of families and children, helping them find safe, permanent homes. They undergo extensive training to understand trauma's impact on child development, ensuring they provide empathetic, informed support. I personally attend a monthly class to continuously enhance my knowledge as a CASA Domestic violence can appear in many forms, and it's important to recognize it no matter the disguise it takes. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please seek help. No one should endure this alone. Remember, there's no shame in reaching out—the world is more compassionate than it seems. Together, we can break the cycle of violence. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #CASAGAL

💌 💪 It is Mental Health Awareness Month 💪💌 Other than trying to share mental health resources and crush the stigma around talking about mental health (no matter which month it is), I'm jumping on the Mental Health Month trend to share some thoughts. 💕 If you are struggling- you are not alone. 💟 Everyone has mental health, the same way everyone has physical health. The only difference is that we are used to talking about our physical health. We can change the double standard! ❣ Here are some free Mental Health resources: 988- Crisis Hotline National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - Providing education, advocacy, and support: NAMI.org Mental Health America - Offering tools and resources for mental wellness: https://lnkd.in/gddfTzN4 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) - Assistance for substance abuse and mental health issues: https://www.samhsa.gov/* ...and some of my favorite organizations supporting, raising money for, education, and advocating for mental health services and support: The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Add your free resources and favorite mental health orgs in the comments- you never know when someone who needs it will see it! #mentalhealthishealth #stopthestigma #mentalhealthawareness *This is not a complete list
