Usually performed by a health care practitioner, it is the process of feeling an object in or on the body to determine its size, shape, firmness, or location. The front of your fingers are used to perform light palpation, deep palpation, light ballottement and deep ballottement. Light palpation is used to feel abnormalities that are on the surface, usually pressing down 1-2 centimeters.
