I’m so excited to finally share what I’ve been pouring my efforts into over the last 2.5 years at ROLI.
Introducing ROLI Airwave—an innovative device and platform that uses hand-tracking technology to revolutionize piano learning and playing.
For learners, Airwave provides personalized guidance for every key press, ensuring accurate finger placement, optimal posture, and healthy playing habits. And when paired with a MIDI keyboard, it transforms into a powerful musical instrument, allowing expressive sound control through gestural movements.

Some interesting observations in this video: People will use AI to make music that’s the same as what they like. Who pays for the music? Who gets paid? Some people can instantly tell if a song was made by AI. How? That will change.

Throwback to Alexas 10th birthday ;)
I have created showreels for Arri for around 20 years, and in this time the format and my skills shaped each other to a great extent. I aim for a result that is entertaining, well timed, emotionally dense, never boring, and surprising as often as possible. Something that will grip the viewer right away and not let go until the end.
A camera showreel should demonstrate the cameras marketshare, the industries trust into it, display the filmmakers creativity, diversity, artistic quality, beauty, reminisce stories, fictional or real people, brag with production value or plainly drop names. (I set ins and outs on countless famous faces, and processed an incredible amount of multimillion dollar trailers).
A project might get on average 4 to 8 seconds in the reel, and in this short window, the topic, story, mood, actors, country, artistic approach, personal drama of the film should shine through while using its most stunning images.
Arri would ask the industry for input and get me a very diverse, and at first, impenetrable amount of footage that might have nothing to do with each other, or - interestingly - be conceptionally very close. How to make sense of this haystack?
I take time feeling the material, let my subconscious create connections, aggregate images around topic clouds, trying to create coherence, distill emotional undercurrents and create small subplots.
It has happened many times that on slowly waking up, still being in the dreamworld, I would begin thinking about a project. I would load up the footage in my mind, try to find a 'lighthouse' first image, think of a cool new concept, pick a music track out of the preselection, and compose a first draft mentally. This works surprisingly well, given I know the footage inside out.
Here, I have had the opportunity to make a birthday compilation out of the 10 years of Alexa showreels I had previously created. A nice way to revisit past years films and the faces in them, emotions, personal memories, and muse on industry concepts changing over the years. This time travel features the soundtrack of the original music I had selected back then, and fun audio snippets that will stay with me forever. RobEEEEERT!
We mostly worked with the original clips, in order to do a new color grading from source material. If you ever tried to find and make sense of files from 10 years back, you know the challenge ;)
I'm glad to have been able to keep this project alive and kicking for such a long time, and challenge myself anew every time. Besides, I'm thankful for the constructive and friendly collaboration with Henning and his team from Arri. It´s extremely rare to serially work with such diverse, creatively dense, high-grade and expensive material. Considering how many top shots in the film industry from around the world saw my work over the years is quite satisfying, and keeps raising the bar of my own expectations.
