#Innovation needs #Diversity: 📊 A new study by Paula Prenzel et al. "Cultural diversity and innovative entrepreneurship" explores the nexus between regional cultural diversity and the innovation drive of early-stage entrepreneurs across #Europe. Utilizing data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, the study conducted a detailed multilevel analysis across 140 European regions. 🇪🇺 Findings reveal that regions rich in cultural diversity tend to foster a stronger orientation towards innovation among entrepreneurs. 🚀 The paper examines how cultural diversity acts as a catalyst for innovative business strategies, underpinned by factors like agent diversity, attractiveness of diverse regions, and the impact of cognitive distance and human capital. 🌍💡 The paper is available at Small Business Economics: https://lnkd.in/gfquDJ5z #Entrepreneurship #CulturalDiversity #RegionalDevelopment

🤩 It´s a pleasure to share our paper published in Small Business Economics: An Entrepreneurship Journal - Do institutional dimensions matter at different stages of the entrepreneurial process? A multi-country study 💡 In entrepreneurship research, we explore various perspectives to understand what drives or facilitates entrepreneurial activity. My work focuses particularly on analyzing environmental factors, such as regulations and culture, and how these elements affect and shape entrepreneurs' individual perceptions. 📌 In this study, we make an important distinction between those factors that promote entrepreneurship in different phases. This differentiation is crucial because research commonly focuses on specific stages without offering a comparison between them. Our findings emphasize the need for policies that promote entrepreneurship to consider the stage of the process the entrepreneur is in. Furthermore, we highlight the importance of analyzing the interaction between the institutions; it's not just the policies that improve regulations but also culture and individual perceptions, which are influenced and nurtured by the environment. 🎉 I would like to share that this work is the first empirical chapter of my doctoral thesis and the first document of this research that has been published. My most sincere thanks to my co-authors, Claudia Alvarez and David Urbano, for all their support on this academic journey. It's the beginning of many, and I hope, above all, that we can continue translating these results into improving the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the contexts we research. https://lnkd.in/d3Ebx2SN #researchimpact #proudmoment #phdachievement #researchlife #published

I recommend this @WorldBank blog with interesting insights from their entrepreneurship database. Through this database, they measure the level of entrepreneurial activity across countries over time. They show 5 key takeaways here: 1. High-income countries have a higher level of entrepreneurial activity. 2. Entrepreneurial activity evolves differently across income groups. 3. Economies experienced a rebound in new business registrations in 2021. 4. Estonia has the highest rate of new business globally. 5. Cabo Verde experienced the most significant increase in new businesses over time. Impossible is nothing: Entrepreneurship in Cuba and small firms’ business performance “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it” (Muhammad Ali). I am grateful to my co-authors and really pleased to share our recent article published in Journal of Small Business Management. The authors are; Julio Cerviño, University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain. Sylvie Chetty, Uppsala University/University of Gothenburg/University of Eastern Finland. Oscar Martín Martín, Public University of Navarre/Uppsala University Here is the link for the open access full article in Journal of Small Business Management. https://lnkd.in/gpvYW66Z Abstract While entrepreneurs play a crucial role in shaping the business environment in transitional economies, there is a lack of studies in such contexts. Cuba represents an idiosyncratic collectivist economy which is gradually transforming into a socialist market economy, and there is a dearth of literature on entrepreneurship in Cuba. Understanding business performance drivers and challenges faced by small firms in this context may have important theoretical and practical implications. We explore the determinants of small firms’ business performance in Cuba. We combine a capabilities and institutional perspective on entrepreneurship to explain small firms’ business performance in this turbulent transitional market. Specifically, we suggest that managerial capabilities, supply-chain problems, and institutional factors explain small firms’ business performance. We contribute to both the small firm and entrepreneurship literature by contextualizing capabilities and institutional perspectives to identify the critical role played by managerial capabilities and supply-chain problems in economies where supply is constrained. #entrepreneurship #InternationalEntrepreneurship #InstitutionalTheory #capabilities #ManagerialCapabilities #Cuba #SmallFirmsBusinessPerformance #TransitionalEconomies #SupplyChainProblems

Humanitarian award winner providing remote business coaching to entrepreneurs in developing countries and emerging economies. Founder and Chief Entrepreneurship Officer at EFour Enterprises.
I have it on good authority that entrepreneurial education sucks. Globally. The GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) Report has been tracking various aspects of entrepreneurship around the world for 25 years. The 2023/2024 report indicates that the two Entrepreneurial Framework Condition (EFC) scores on entrepreneurial education in schools were the LOWEST OF ALL the factors in 31 out of the 49 economies tracked. This has been the case over successive years. Can’t say I’m surprised. The fact that wealthy countries don’t do a good job of it is pretty interesting, but this is 1000 times more important in developing countries, where there are not enough jobs and the only way to make a living is self-employment or entrepreneurship. Why isn’t entrepreneurship more widely taught in schools? Everything would benefit, from microenterprises to communities to value chains to GDPs. #globalentrepreneurship #developingcountries #entrepreneurialeducation https://lnkd.in/eusG9cBu
