The March "household survey" revealed a surge of 469,000 people entering the US labor force, thereby increasing the labor force participation rate. Among the myriad disruptions caused by the pandemic on the macroeconomy, there has been a notable decrease in the number of Americans participating in the labor market since COVID hit. This decline is evident in the nonfarm payroll data, which indicates that total jobs in the US economy remain significantly below the pre-pandemic trend, despite apparent strength in job growth.
