During my freshman year at Rowan University, I got to experience an exciting group project of building a mechanical arm. The mission of this project: Use four phases to incrementally design a robotic arm that mimics the functionality of a human arm, although simplified with respect to a number of joints and degrees of freedom, working  incrementally from the hand back to the shoulder. As a proud parent, I know that it takes a lot of hard work, ingenuity, and perseverance to achieve such a degree. But what makes me even happier is that Casey never stopped building Legos. Building with Legos instills creativity, design thinking, and problem-solving skills that are valuable in any field, especially engineering. Although Casey's current projects might not resemble the colorful blocks of her childhood, the skills she sharpened will undoubtedly contribute to essential items of our everyday lives. Who knows, perhaps her expertise could even be vital in crafting an AT-AT walker in a galaxy far far away... So if you have a girl (or boy!), consider buying her Legos. Enroll her in STEM camps; if there isn't one, build a program. Introduce her to technology. Build an iPhone app. Invest in a 3D printer. Pull apart a computer you no longer use and explore all the parts. Fix your toilet yourself and have her help. 🏚 More than 2000 visited our open house at Jönköping University, and School of Engineering, Jönköping University on Sat. March 16th. The day is aimed at students who are about to choose an educational path and younger teenagers who got inspiration for future study choices. In our booth, we had an exhibition on the excellence of #component #casting and a demonstration of spectacular #material #properties. 👩🎓 This was followed up by today's "#VeraDay", when about 50 fifth-grade students visited us to be inspired by various engineering disciplines with hands-on activities.
