Is it time to rethink the way we do Data Governance frameworks? According to TechRadar the answer is yes as organisations are struggling to align Data Governance with business goals. The areas in which organisations are struggling most are: 👉 Ensuring access to data 👉 Compliance with internal standards Is there anything that can be done to simultaneously provide solutions to both of the above challenges? Enter: computational governance. Computational governance is described as an automated, consistent framework that maintains governance rules throughout the data lifecycle. This approach is proposed to overcome current difficulties, streamline data processes and ensure adherence to standards and regulations, ultimately enhancing the value extraction from data assets. It does this in a number of ways: ⚙️ Automation for consistency, time-saving and compliance. Unlike traditional methods that often require significant manual intervention, computational governance automates governance processes. Since the governance framework is automated and bypassing the system isn’t an option, reliance on individuals to follow governance policies is reduced. It can also automatically enforce policies which minimise the risk of non-compliance and data breaches. 🕐 Real-time enforcement. With computational governance, governance rules are imposed consistently in real-time, ensuring that data quality, integrity, compliance and security standards are maintained continuously throughout the data lifecycle. The way it works is that a predefined set of policies are built into the system and any data projects which go through the system will be checked in real-time to ensure they adhere to relevant standards before reaching production. 🤝 Seamless integration. Computational governance works with existing data tools and technologies, eliminating the need for costly and time consuming consolidation efforts. This adaptability allows organisations to enforce governance without disrupting their current systems. Overall, computational governance transforms how organisations manage data by embedding governance into the data processes themselves, ensuring that data governance is not an afterthought but a fundamental aspect of data management.
