Smaller Ships in Demand as ULCVs Stay Anchored - A growing number of newbuild ultra-large container vessels (ULCVs) sit idle off the Chinese coast. - Alliance partners face resistance in deploying 24,000 TEU ULCVs, as demand falls and slots are hard to fill. - An additional 150,000 TEU of newbuild capacity is expected, worsening oversupply. - Despite this oversupply, the containership charter market thrives due to a focus on ordering large ships. - Smaller vessel charter rates remain above pre-pandemic levels, with more flexible terms, benefiting feeder operators like Unifeeder and X-Press. The regulation UN ECE R141 is ready to come. From July all brand new vehicles shall be equipped with a TPMS or TPRS system.
