Damian Walch’s Post

I believe that setting and working towards goals is an integral part of career progression. This year one of my goals is to complete a 2-day event in September. Day 1 will be 22 miles with about 6,000 feet of elevation and Day 2 will be 24 miles and about 5,000 feet of elevation. One of the reasons that I chose Rim2Rim is because 90% of the proceeds raised in this event go Alzheimer’s and ALS research. Those two devastating neurodegenerative disorders will continue to threaten to take the minds and bodies from so many of us. While fighting Alzheimer’s and ALS is very important, the other reason I’m doing this event is because I want to try to: 1. Inspire others to reach new limits. We are NEVER too old to challenge ourselves to move beyond our perceived limits. 2. Promote the importance of mind and body wellness. I’ve made brain health, sleep, and cognitive enhancement a priority for me in 2024. We all have causes that are near-and-dear to our hearts, but I've tried to think about something that can also build awareness and potentially drive people to consider prevention techniques. We are all bombarded with requests for donations. I also know that many people have been recently impacted by downsizing. So please don’t give it a second thought if you do not or cannot donate. However, if you have a few dollars please consider donating to a very positive cause that could impact many of our friends and family in the future.

Big thanks to Christa Ancri, David Sliwicki, Aaron Callaway, and Peter Hodge for the donations. Fundraising goal achieved!

Great cause! My father currently suffers from dimentia. Have completed 6 crossings, 3 RTR. Cut your tonails and wrap duct tape around your walking poles (can be used to repair water bladder, remove cactus spines, wrap an ankle, cover a cut). A couple of tips :) September will still be very warm, contrary to hiking in Colorado I like cotton shirts, gets wet and can keep you cool. Where in Colorado the other way around “cotton kills.” Let me know if you have any other questions. I consider myself a canyoneer and hikers should take it very seriously! Good luck Damien you will do great!

Damian Walch thank you for raising awareness for the Alzheimer's Association®. For the past 9 years I have been the Board Chair of the Alzheimer's Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter. I have been involved with the organization in MA and CA since my late Mom was diagnosed with it in 2007. I look forward to a world without Alzheimer's. It will be a memory no one will miss.
