Here ya go… 🚔👮♂️👉👨💻 From The Beat to The Cloud: My Hilarious Journey to Becoming a Tech Nerd at Mark43 🌐💼🚀 Retiring from the Sheriff’s Office and hanging up my uniform, I thought I’d be spending my days camping or finally tackling that mountain of books I’ve been meaning to read. Instead, I found myself swapping my trusty handcuffs for something even more powerful - a laptop with access to the vast expanse of the cloud. And let me tell you, it’s been one heck of a ride. The Plot Twist: 🔄After decades of chasing down suspects and mastering the art of the perfect doughnut selection, I joined Mark43. Suddenly, I was the new rookie on the block again, but this time in the world of cloud-native CAD and RMS platforms. If you think a stakeout is intense, try debugging code for the first time. Talk about a high-speed chase! Training Day (Reimagined): 🎓💾On my first day, I expected a leisurely orientation. Instead, I was greeted with terms like “SaaS,” “BAFO”, “scalability,” and “API integrations.” I felt like I’d accidentally walked into a foreign language class. My first task wasn’t to solve a crime but to solve a tech issue. There I was, a seasoned officer, sweating bullets over a keyboard instead of a standoff. The Stakeout (Tech Edition): 🕵️♂️🖥️Remember those stakeouts in the dead of night, waiting for something to happen? In tech, that’s called monitoring system performance. The thrill of the chase is now tracking down bugs and glitches before they wreak havoc. And let me tell you, helping nab a pesky piece of rogue code feels just as victorious as catching a suspect on the lam. The Interrogation Turns Interview: 🚨➡️🎤Gone are the days of interrogating suspects. Now, my ‘interrogations’ involve diving deep into clients' needs and figuring out how our solutions can solve their biggest challenges. The spotlight’s still there, but instead of a hardened criminal, it’s on me, showcasing the latest tech to improve public safety. The Chase: 🏃♂️💨Except now, the only running I’m doing is keeping up with the latest in cloud technology. And trust me, it’s just as adrenaline-pumping as any foot chase. The Moral of the Story? 🌟Who knew that the skills I honed on the force would make me a top-notch solutions engineer? From patrolling the streets to patrolling the cloud, it turns out the leap isn’t as far as one might think. And while my days of doughnut-fueled briefings are behind me, my team at Mark43 assures me that the coffee is just as good (and my waistline thanks me). So here’s to all my new adventures, to swapping handcuffs for code, and to proving that you can teach an old dog new tech tricks. I'd love to share about how my team and I won big at Hack the Hill II this past weekend, but . . . that didn't really happen. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of getting the chance to dig into TCP networking, async scheduling, resilience, and everything else under the sun when it came to building a distributed peer to peer file sharing system. But if I had to do it again, here are 3 things I would have done differently: 1. Confirm my spot on a team *before* game start. I didn't have a confirmed team until about an hour after hacking officially began. As a result, I got paired up with folks who essentially learned what TCP was and how it worked that weekend. There's only so much you can do when you're explaining concepts as much as writing code, but I'm still really proud of all our efforts that weekend. 2. Square away all obligations before showtime. I had a major assignment due the Saturday of the hackathon. I did not complete said assignment until that Saturday. This cost me a lot of time that could have been spent helping the team get up to speed a lot more quickly. Here, I was basically acting like a senior engineer/team lead, as *weird* of an experience as that is considering I have yet to hold a Junior role. So I needed to show up, and unfortunately I couldn't do that with academic obligations looming over my head. 3. Aim higher. I was treating the challenge like an assignment. Get through the basics before you get to the more advanced stuff, and worry about embellishments once you have a basic prototype. I think knowing what the use case and vision was going to be going in would have helped set us apart, because really what we had in the end was fairly basic compared to what the winners brought. Heck, it didn't even work reliably during the demo -- that's mostly my fault for not being super great at building resilient networks. Hopefully future hackathons and competitions go better -- something about failure isn't failure until you stop trying, right?

The movement towards "Less Trust, More Truth" in Web3 isn't just technological, it's philosophical.🧐 Aiming to address issues like data privacy, security, and control, (which have become problematic in Web 2.0), this technological evolution has become a social & cultural revolution.✊🏻 It must be noted that achieving this vision involves overcoming significant challenges: including scalability, user experience, and regulatory acceptance. 👀 However, hope is not lost as developers, researchers, and Web3 communities actively work towards making it a more user-empowered space.💪🏻 Since it represents a paradigm shift in the way we think about the internet, what's your personal take on Web3?

"Understanding the dark side of tech communities" I have been part of tech communities since 2020 but it was all remote until I met people in real life in a tech community event in 2022. The community space has given me a lot, making me open to so many opportunities and learning, but it's not all shiny and glittery cause at the end of the day, it's just people and they can be good and bad. There are several experiences in the community space that are better left unsaid. My advice would be to be careful who you talk to and who you think is your friend because not everyone in the community spaces your friend because the people there are just regular people and as I said, the people can be good or bad. Whenever you go to a community meet up, make sure the organizers are picky about filtering the attendees before inviting them. It generally helps in "removing the bad apples" from the final list of attendees who make it there. Setting up boundaries helps tremendously in protecting the individuals, and it's not okay to share your personal details without verifying the legitimacy of the person. Also, reporting any incidence directly to the community organizers helps in preventing them from joining the next meet-ups (blacklisting them). Reporting is easy, organizers and volunteers are there for you, just reaching them out directly in case of suspicion or emergency can help a lot. I used to share my number directly in the community meet-ups cause I didn't see a point not to, but the number of frauds and scams have made me question a number of things so it's usually safe to connect with folks on LinkedIn. Networking is a crucial aspect of meet-ups and it's absolutely alright to talk and learn stuff from people, most people there are helpful in many aspects of life but all I'm saying is to be careful and set up boundaries. I'm armed with my coffee and a can-do attitude, ready to tackle any tech challenge that comes my way. Little did I know, I was about to embark on a debugging adventure like no other. Enter: The Case of the Vanishing Files. A frantic call comes in from a stressed-out colleague whose files mysteriously disappeared into the digital abyss. Cue the dramatic music! 💻 Debugging Drama Unfolds 💻 I dive headfirst into the issue, clicking away furiously at my keyboard as if I were in a high-stakes hacker movie. I check every nook and cranny of the system, running diagnostics and scans like a tech-savvy Sherlock Holmes. But alas, the files remain elusive, playing a game of hide-and-seek with my sanity. Just when I'm about to throw in the towel and blame it on gremlins, inspiration strikes. I remember a trick I learned back in IT school (thanks, Professor!). With a newfound sense of determination, I delve into the depths of the network settings, following digital breadcrumbs like a seasoned tracker. 🔧 Eureka!
