Some (sympathetic, hopefully useful) thoughts on Spotlight entries for actors from a director: No video showreel: On what basis am I supposed to cast you? Scene-setting, titles, etc: I have to review lots of profiles. Just show us the acting. Other actors: Only show your bit as much as possible. Sometimes I can't tell which performer is you because I don't know you well. I'm casting a comedy: A reel marked "Comedy" is very useful for me, it gets me straight there. Be weird: You can't please everyone, so be the best in your niche. If you're a French contortionist, own it, don't go for the Greek tap-dancing roles. Hope that helps.

🎥 Making People Laugh is Serious Business 🎬 Comedy is one of the toughest genres to get right. It’s not just about landing a joke; it’s about timing, authenticity, and creating moments that resonate long after the punchline. Whether it’s a goofy short set in a dead mall (Mall Quest) or a story about a cowboy-turned-Uber driver chasing love in NYC (Cowboy Taxi), comedy gives us a way to tackle life’s absurdities while finding the humanity in every laugh. At Hollenbeck Film + Experience (HFE), we approach comedy with the same precision and care as any drama or thriller. It’s about creating characters and stories that feel real, even in the most ridiculous situations. Laughter isn’t just entertainment—it’s a way to connect, to reflect, and sometimes, to heal. To all the creators, writers, and producers out there making people laugh: Keep going. The world can always use more of what you do. Let’s hear it—what’s your favorite comedy movie or show, and why does it stick with you? Drop it in the comments! #Filmmaking #Comedy #Storytelling #HollenbeckFilms #LaughOutLoud

Hollywood Film 'Fast Charlie' Review: Entertaining Cast Saves Predictable Plot Language: English Genre: Action, Crime, Dark Comedy Director: Phillip Noyce Starring: Pierce Brosnan, James Caan, Morena Baccarin, Gbenga Akinnagbe Available In: Theatres Runtime: 90 minutes Rating: 3 star Fast Charlie is an action movie with a fun twist of humor. Pierce Brosnan plays Charlie, a hired killer who works for an old gangster boss (James Caan). When a rival gang attacks, Charlie seeks revenge. He teams up with a smart and brave woman named Marcie (Morena Baccarin) and faces many dangerous situations together. The Good Stuff Great Acting: Pierce Brosnan is charming and tough as Charlie. He works well with Morena Baccarin, who is funny and strong. James Caan delivers a memorable performance too. Action & Comedy Mix: The movie has exciting fight scenes and funny moments throughout. What Could Be Better Simple Story: The plot might feel familiar, like other action movies you've seen. Slower Pace: Some parts of the movie move a little slower. Direction and Style Noyce's direction keeps the film simple and engaging. The story mixes crime, romance, and humour. The action scenes are balanced with moments of introspection and comedy, though the plot sometimes feels predictable. Final Thoughts Fast Charlie is an entertaining movie, especially if you like action and some laughs. The actors are all great, and the movie is a nice tribute to James Caan's career. Even though the story might not be surprising, it's still enjoyable to watch. #Hitflik #fastcharlie #hollywood #moviereview #3star #morenabaccarin #piercebrosnan

Timing is everything ⏰ I went to a short film screening last night and in the reception met the composer. She was telling me that she works mostly in factual tv but really wanted to crossover into comedy. So on a whim she messaged a comedy producer she’d been following for a while saying that she would love to work with her on something in the future. Just so happens that producer was pulling together a team for a quick turnaround short at the time she messaged. And the rest as they say is history. What I took from this conversation is: 1. Yes, shoot your shot! You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take so take the shot reach out to people you want to work with. 2. If timing is everything then follow ups are crucial. The chances that you send one DM at the perfect moment is possible but slim. You maximise your chances of being in the right place at the right time when you follow up.

There is comedy genre. People like it. There is horror genre. Some people enjoy it. The director of Hereditary movie Ari Aster was into horror movies from year 5 or 7. So people who like horror are also normal people. They like the emotion triggered by horror. But then as much for the love of cocktails, a person came up with the idea of horror with comedy on the top. Horror comedy. And there have been so many movies that has clicked with horror-comedy genre tells one thing about why this new formula have worked, which at first discussion would have looked bizzare in a closed room meeting. The reason is horror provokes some emotions and everyone likes subtle comedy. So mixing horror with comedy is basically doubling up the emotions generated in audience in a 2 hour time frame. When the audience come out of theatre, they have been played well by triggering not only the fun vibes + also the horror fear/ thrill. They just don't know about it. All that couple knew they had good time in the dark room in the last 2 hours. And that only matters. Triggering more emotions in the same time interval is the reason for the success of this mixer genres. All of this is coming from watching 5 minutes of the movie Phonebooth. Should I continue watching it? How is it ? #movies #direction #comedy #life

Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I “read” this book about the making of Airplane! and still was dumbfounded by how many big names and major studios passed on making the greatest comedy movie of all time. Most simply didn’t get it, despite the success and example of Kentucky Fried Movie and KF Theatre. Every studio passed on the script. It took 5 years to get it produced! Serendipity, as much as talent, played a huge role in making Airplane! a reality. If it weren’t for Susan Baerwald, a script reader who was family friends w Michael Eisner, the project would never have gotten off the ground. At every turn, ZAZ seemed to make the right choice; however, they succeeded in large part because they stuck to a few principles: 1. Play it straight. The actors can’t let on that they know they’re in a comedy. 2. Maintain creative control. 3. Stick together. Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker were the first 3-person team to direct a major Hollywood picture. 4. Believe in your product. https://lnkd.in/gadCEJ59

Showreels That Make An Impact In Under 40 Seconds 🎭 Casting directors are pressed for time. They need to see what you can do fast, without sitting through a full-length scene. That’s why I developed the 'Casting Edit'—a focused, high-impact version of your scene, designed to highlight your best moments within the first 30-40 seconds. This makes it easier and quicker for CDs to assess whether you fit the brief, and increase your chances of standing out. In this edit, Grace delivers a masterclass in comedy timing, with pitch-perfect delivery and effortless charm. A great reminder that a strong showreel isn’t just about great acting—it’s about precision, pacing, and making an instant connection with the viewer. #Acting #Showreels #CastingEdit #ScreenActing #GetNoticed #MakeAnImpact #showreels #actresslife #acting #casting #80s #funny #comedy #fyp #m25 #showreelproducer #actorshowreel #demoreel

Laughing is an antidote to almost everything we face and it can be derived from anything. Watching these actors sitting together at the same table is a treat. An hour very well spent. Some of them are absolute legends, and slapstick comedy aside, the routines they employ are fresh, original and darn right unique. The depth that goes into comedy is astounding. The fact that comedy comes from a dark place needs no elucidation. The fact that Henry Winkler says it is so hard to make people laugh when everyone thinks that comedy is easy. Being funny is one thing, making people laugh is another. Each actor has his own story and how they got where they are today is exceptional. Winkler dealt with the kind of typecast issue that we are all aware of, but the fact that he was Fonsie on Happy Days, a show that was voraciously telecasted all over the world, at a time when television had just begun to spread its wings, makes his story all the more impactful. How the great Jim Carrey drives his point that he wants to be taken seriously. That comedy should ignite the issues that are being addressed is golden. How he once dealt with a crowd that booed him, staying on stage for more than an hour and then finally leaving by dragging himself through the floor like a fish. Danson's humility about him being the bridge on Cheers to the wonderfully weird and wacky characters, making it easier for him to rise through the ranks was lovely to watch. I haven’t seen much of Cheadle or Simons in the comical context but their experiences are great to hear. And lastly, Sacha Baron Cohen on his brand of comedy, the depths he goes to. Even with Jim Carrey on the table, Sacha pretty much takes over the bunch due to the maddeningly distinct nature of his performances, especially with the latest show, Who is America. His part is certainly the most riveting. How he describes some of the incidents which involved politicians, controversial figures and topics is unheard of. One of a kind. If you like comedy, give this video a watch. It will shed light on a genre that is sometimes heavily underrated. https://lnkd.in/dbbEGmWW #closeup #roundtable #hollywoodreporter #thr
