If money alone won elections, we wouldn’t need political strategists. Democrats would have won pretty much every race since the Citizens United ruling. Money = microphone But Microphone ≠ Good Messaging And if your message isn’t compelling, no one gives a shit There are many examples of this despite the promoting of the idea that money alone seals the deal for an election. In the 2020 Democratic Primary, Mike Bloomberg May as well have lit $1B on fire Tom Steyer only a bit less than Bloomberg …they quit Super Tuesday They spent more than anyone else ever, and they got whooped. So what gives? Well, simply, their message wasn’t distinct, memorable or powerful Money only gives you a chance to say something loudly enough for people to hear you But no amount of money makes people care, the message matters. #elections #campaigns #politics #presidential #politicaladvertising #politicalconsulting #elections #election2024 #republican #democrat

Why is swing state voting so important in US Elections? Answer: The result of voting in about a handful of states is not predictable and it is worth investing substantial campaign funds into those. These swing states are where the populations are, politically, very closely divided. Who will win the presidency comes down to which candidate can win the swing states. But we can get more granular: based on 5-5-5-270 theory, looking at the popular vote on a national level is not very useful to predict who is going to be the president. It all comes down to the 5% of voters in 5 the key counties of the 5 swing states. Do you agree, or disagree? We'd love to read your comments :) #elections #news #broadcast #datavisualization #interknowlogy #ikinsights #electioninsights #cnn #magicwall #discussion

We naturally (and understandably) are usually most curious about elections where there is the most competition between the Republican and Democratic Parties. Yet it can be just as interesting to see where there has been a lack of election competitiveness and how it came to be. This series of posts dives into where the longest droughts for both Democrats and Republicans are in winning various offices, along with contextual information regarding these streaks. Today's post is part 3, looking at where Democrats have struggled the longest to win U.S. Senate seats. Part 4 will look at this same topic but for Republicans. #politicalscience #elections #ussenate #elections2024

Saw this graph today and it's an absolute disgrace. Over 30 BILLION dollars were spent on TV/Online political ads during the last four federal elections. Is this really the best use of funds? It's no wonder politicians aren't prioritizing their constituents when they're bending over backward to please campaign donors. #politics #campaignfinance #elections #moneyinpolitics #citizensunited

It seemed like you couldn’t escape a media discussion in the run up to the UK general election this month without an official poll of some sort underpinning it. In fact, all throughout the duration of a government’s tenure, popularity polls are being held. It’s not a new phenomenon. In fact, in the 1960s there were calls for election polls to be banned for fear of how they may influence voting behaviour. Brushed off by the political establishment at the time, they have been a mainstay of British elections ever since...
