Can you name every species caught on camera at the Okapi Wildlife Reserve? The biodiversity in this part of the Ituri forest in the Democratic Republic of Congo is, to put it lightly, breathtaking. To protect the endangered okapi, the Okapi Conservation Project is protecting its rainforest habitat and, in turn, protecting the diverse array of other species that call this forest home. https://hubs.ly/Q02vPfrJ0

Wildlife Wednesday: Amazing Facts About Endangered Species 🐾 Did you know? Tigers have lost 93% of their historical range - This loss of habitat not only affects tigers but also the entire ecosystem that depends on them. Tigers play a crucial role as apex predators, helping to regulate prey populations and maintain the health of their environment. There are only about 1,800 pandas left in the wild - Pandas are a key species for conservation; protecting them helps preserve the bamboo forests they depend on, which benefits many other species and contributes to biodiversity. Vaquitas are the most endangered marine mammals with fewer than 10 left - The loss of vaquitas would not only be a tragedy for this unique species but also signal a failure to protect marine ecosystems from destructive fishing practices. ~ Awareness is the first step to action ~ #WildlifeWednesday #EndangeredSpecies #Conservation"

Celebrating World Animal Day – The Power of Conservation Today, on World Animal Day, we celebrate the incredible biodiversity that makes our planet so unique. From the majestic African elephant to the tiny poison dart frog, every species plays a critical role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystems. However, over 1 million species are currently at risk of extinction due to habitat loss, climate change, and poaching. It’s crucial that we take action now—whether through supporting conservation organizations, reducing our carbon footprint, or spreading awareness about the importance of biodiversity. What will you do today to support wildlife conservation? #WorldAnimalDay #Conservation #Biodiversity #WildlifeProtection

Why do we study the wildlife? The world’s wildlife is being lost up to 10,000 times faster than the natural extinction rate. We need to: 1- To successfully inform conservation priorities. 2- Design conservation measures. 3- Assess the impact of biodiversity loss 4- Monitor changes in species communities. #conservation #wildlife #biodiversity

A highly conservative estimate states that the current loss of plant species is between 100 and 1000 times higher than the expected natural extinction rate and that the Earth is losing at least one potential major drug every 2 years. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the World Wildlife Fund, there are between 50,000 and 80,000 flowering plant species used for medicinal purposes worldwide. Among these, about 15,000 species are threatened with extinction from overharvesting and habitat destruction, and 20 % of their wild resources have already been nearly exhausted with the increasing human population and plant consumption. #conservationeducation #traditionalhealthcare #traditionalknowledge #indigenouspeople #florafauna #biodiversityconservation #climatejustice #sacredknowledge #threatenedspecies #rangelandmanagement

World Wildlife Day is here! This year's theme is "Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation." As we all know technology such as GIS has helped us advance conservation efforts vastly. The time to support wildlife has never been more important as biodiversity is severely threatened globally and the 30x30 goals are fast approaching. Use this day as an important reminder of why conservation work is so imperative. In support of this year's theme comment your favorite use of technology to support conservation! #worldwildlifeday #conservation #technology #30x30
