Interesting perspective from Keith Spacapan, leader of Hilco's Automotive Inventory team. While the US is experiencing excess auto manufacturing capacity, Mexico is operating at 100% and poised for growth. Last year, the automotive industry toyed with a seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR) of 16 million units on several occasions, but never quite reached that threshold. Ultimately, U.S. light vehicle sales for 2023 amounted to 15.6 million units, indicating a 13% uptick from 2022. Present estimates for 2024 range from 15.5 million to 16.0 million vehicles. Throughout last year, the auto sector came close to reaching a seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR) of 16 million units on multiple occasions, yet fell short of achieving it. Eventually, U.S. light vehicle sales for the entirety of 2023 tallied up to 15.6 million units, marking a 13% surge from the previous year.
