The inspiration and energy behind my photography? Let’s take a look… 📸 Inspiration for photographers is a movable feast. There are so many references, locations, visual styles, genres and of course, great photographic masters. At the start of the journey it was all about street photography, inspired by the greats such as Saul Leiter, Bresson, Vivian Maier. However, as I moved toward making a career from photography, I found energy in the built world around us; historic buildings, abandoned buildings and perhaps most importantly, modern minimalism. It was the clean lines and simplicity of modern minimalism that drew my eye; straight lines guiding me to a simple yet perfect confluence of space. I try to create a constant of straight lines in my work, leading the viewers eye to a pleasing conclusion. When photographing people, I try to bring in elements of my street photography days; catching people in their environment, perhaps unawares, perhaps posing, but always natural looking and relaxed. It makes for a greater sense of openness and approachability which is key when branding your business. Please share any comments or contributions you may have. It would be great to hear from you! #PhotographyInspiration #CreativeJourney #InteriorPhotography #Workspacesnap

This behind-the-scenes (BTS) shot reveals the magic and skill behind our photography at R/E Media. Sometimes, to achieve the perfect ambiance, we need to "create" natural light, especially in spaces where sunlight is limited. This image shows a large, powerful light positioned outside a window, artfully mimicking the warm glow of the sun. It's a testament to our innovative approach and commitment to producing exquisite images, regardless of the natural lighting conditions. This technique allows us to maintain a consistent quality in our photography, ensuring that each space is presented in its best light. It's not just about taking pictures; it's about crafting an atmosphere that enhances the beauty and appeal of the property. One the key yet most overlooked aspect of interior photography is the editing phase. While most clients are keen on the location photos, if proper attention and skillset is not utilized at the editing, the final output can fail. I realized that editing goes hand in hand with the digital age of photography. Therefore, can provide higher value to my clients with greater precision in story telling and bringing out the mood in a place. Below left is straight out of the camera RAW image compared to what it looks like after the editing phase is completed. #hotelphotography #srilanka #architecturalphotography #realestatephotography #space80

Why are we interested in photography in the studio? Photography is part of our craft and plays an important role in our design process. It enables us to frame, position and determine the visual appeal of products and things. As the saying goes, “you never truly see something until you draw it,” photography similarly prompts us to observe with heightened attention and detail. Within our studio, we often set ourselves creative photography briefs, drawing inspiration from resources like Henry Carroll’s insightful book, “Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs” (we highly recommend this read!). We’re not expert photographers, but we do love to take photos, and this can inspire future work and ways of seeing. We are always evolving, with a desire to do better. #narrativesofcreation #industrialdesignprocess #waysofseeing Andrew Simpson captured by Caitlin Duffus

This weekend I’ve been in London with the family, catching a few shows, sightseeing and bridging up in my street photography. Which obviously got me thinking. Street photography is like capturing magic moments on the go. Here are some tips to help you take your street photography to the next level: 🎨 Be ready for surprises! Life on the streets is full of unexpected moments that can tell amazing stories. 👁️ Pay attention to the little things. Look for unique textures, bright colors, and meaningful interactions that others might miss. ✨ Play with light and shadows. Experiment with different times of day or dramatic lighting to add depth and contrast to your photos. 📷 Don’t be afraid to get close to your surroundings or subjects. This can lead to more authentic and interesting shots. 🌍 Try different angles and perspectives. Change your height, distance, or angle to capture a scene in a way that others might miss.

We can’t stress enough how important photography is when it comes to sell your property. Here are some tips: Make sure that you shoot in good light; never in low light. If the room is bright but there’s no glare or dark corners, grab that camera and get snapping! Declutter before your photo-shoot; you’ll need to do so for the viewings so may as well start as you mean to go on. Viewers want to see a blank canvas, not somebody else’s home. Showcase rooms from the best angle. If you have a large living area, make sure you shoot from the furthest point to demonstrate this. If you have a particularly beautiful feature wall, it’s ok to get closer to it, but ensure it is in context with the rest of your portfolio of shots. They key to decent photography is to remember that low quality pictures will be ignored. Good photography could be all that stands between your home and the offer you need. #EweMove #Stratford #ForestGate #TrustedEstateAgent #LocalEstateAgent

There are many genres in photography, and I believe it is next to impossible to be good at them all, however, concentrating on a few can compliment each other. I shoot a lot of architectural photos, but I also shoot a lot of professional headshots. These may seem like drastically different areas, and they are, but there are many ideas that create a new perspective across these disciplines. When creating a new photograph, there are always choices to be made and problems to solve, and just about every scenario contains issues that can't be controlled. These issues must be worked within or around. In architecture, the building is stationary, and the light is what it is. I can add some, or try to take some away, or pick a certain time of day, but I must work within the parameters. Professional headshots present a whole different set of parameters. I can move the subject around! I can (to some extent) pick and manage the colors. But I must work with a wholly unpredictable human element. This can be both challenging and fun. The story of a headshot is individual, and each individual can have multiple stories. In the case shown below, I was very excited to see my subject carrying a violin case into the session. Awesome, a whole new element to the story! #headshotphotography #peoplephotography #portraitphotography #photography #violin Sarah Wrathall
