Chloe Domont's #Fair_Play: The Impact Of The Blurring Gender Roles On Our Relationships, Marriages And Economic Advancement. Few weeks ago, I saw Chloe Domont's #Fair_Play. It was as thoughtful as it was provocative. And as someone who belongs to the school of thought that abhors art for art sake, it was not only enjoyable but, also, worth saying a few things about. In other words, as my good friends in marketing will say, it was remarkable. But, before I do say those few things, I will love to get a few things off my chest. You see, I have not done a film review in a while, most especially Nigerian Films. It's not because I haven't been watching them, it's because I am just waiting say a few things about reviewing Nigerian Films as a Nigerian Filmmaker when the time is right. I also want to say a few things on this issue that has also been on my mind. Few months ago, I saw these tweet on Twitter (now X), where someone was comparing the payoff of reading a book to watching a film. I had read the tweet but not being in the mood for a rejoinder, I ignored it. But, now, that I am doing a long read article, I feel I might as well make a case for films and why we watch them. First off, trying to weigh the pay off of reading a book and watching a film will be akin to comparing the pay off of reading poetry to reading prose. Poetry is great, but, just a few people get it as opposed to the many who get prose. So, also do a few people who read as opposed to many who watch films. But, all in all, what separates these art forms from one another is just the mediums: for poetry, verses; for prose, plain words; for books; printed; for film; audiovisual... Do you get? Now, that I have answered that, can we now return to our review. Prior to watching #Fair_Play, I didn't know anything about Chloe Domont. Even now, that I do, I am restraining myself from finding out more about her because doing that will mean seeing ALL her works. The first thing that strikes you while watching #Fair_Play is that this director is bold. Not just bold but, also not afraid or crazy enough to break a few tables as we say in Nigeria. In the film, we are thrust into the relationship of two beautiful, engaged couple working in a crazed, high finance firm, where both couples are in line to be promoted with the rumour mills in favour of the man, only for his woman to be the one who gets it. What follows next is the toll this momentous event takes not just on their relationship but, also, on what could have been their marriage... Read the rest here: https://lnkd.in/dRDdrdas

Not All Bad News is Bad... 🤔 Last night, I watched a stand-up comedy show by the incredibly talented #TomSegura. He shared an interesting story from early in his career about a great opportunity that ultimately didn't pan out, which I think offers an important lesson, especially for law students. 😊 Early in Tom's comedy career, he landed a major advertising campaign with Subway. He was set to promote some of their "unhealthier" options and make national appearances with Jared, the face of Subway's healthy image. It seemed like Tom's big break. But the campaign shockingly never made it to air. Tom realized later that while initially disappointing, missing out on this campaign avoided cementing an unhealthy image so early on. And it definitely kept distance between him and Jared after the scandal that later came out. The key message Tom wanted the audience to take with them is that not all seeming "bad news" has to stay bad news. At first, losing out on the Subway campaign was devastating. But in hindsight, it redirection his path into different comedy areas and styles he loves today. The same can hold true in law school and legal careers. You may not land the Summer Internship, Training Contract or even the NQ offer you had your sights. And that rejection undoubtedly stings. However, see it as a redirection rather than roadblock. Reframe that "bad news" as an open door guiding you towards something even better - whether it's a niche area of law you end up thriving in or a smaller firm where you make partner faster! Not getting your first choice role or job doesn't mean you won't find one perfect for you. 😉 Stay positive in the face of early setbacks, and keep striving towards where you ultimately want your legal career to go. As Tom showed with comedy, sometimes Plan B shapes up even better than you imagine. 🤓 I'm Charlotte - follow me for advice on shaping standout legal careers or DM me to schedule a 1-on-1 session. 🙌 #notallbadnewsisbad #redirectionmindset #staypositive #yourpathwayawaits #tomsegura #legalcareergoals #lawstudentmindset

Interview Coach | Helping corporate professionals build the communication skills & confidence to rock your interviews 🤝
💭 When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? And did you ever get a chance to try it as an adult? It’s #funfriday, and my birthday is this weekend, which means I’m in full reminiscing mode ☺️ As I was growing up, I at some point dreamt of being each of the following: 1. A movie director 🎥 2. An interior designer 🛋 3. A lawyer ⚖️ While I never got to try my hand at interior design, I did work the front desk of my university’s Legal Services office in the summer of freshman year — and quickly realized a career in law was not for me. Then, after getting laid off from my corporate management job, I got to try working in the film industry as a camera assistant. It was a wild ride, but again, I had the nagging feeling that there was something more for me out there. Which brings us to today! I now work for myself and get to coach some truly incredible professionals on how to better represent themselves in job interviews. And honestly, I can’t imagine anything more rewarding than this 💕 👉 I do a lot of sharing on here, and I’d love to get to know YOU a little better, too! What did you want to be when you were a kid? #dreamjob #careergoals #birthday #careergrowth #careerchange

Metaphor of Horse Blinds. There was a famous Hollywood actor. His daughter had just joined Acting in cinema. "Wear Horse Blinds" - The Hollywood actor gave this advice to her daughter. A horse blind, prevents a horse from looking on people and things happening on sideways. His focus is fully focused on the role which it has to play. Now look at the Designated Senior Advocates. Watch their demeanor when their cases are about to be called up for hearing.. Look at their eyes... You may find that they are wearing invisible horse blinds. They are oblivious to advocates sitting on their sideways. Their focus is fully on the role which they have to play. Shakespeare had once said, "This whole world is a big stage and we are all actors playing roles on this stage". Today you may be playing the role of a law student, or an advocate seeking senior advocate or an advocate seeking a job. Whatever role you may be playing, focus on your role, focus on the script which you have to deliver, and if you like, make rehearsal of the script which you have to deliver. You are on the Stage of the Great Movie of Your Life. Make it a really good movie. (copyright) Haresh Raichura 30/6/2020, 30/6/2024 #lawyers #lawstudents #interns #career #motivation

Design a life that reflects you, not society's expectations of you.| Certified Fair Play Facilitator | Coach | Mom | Gardener | Lover of salty sea air
The school year is coming FAST. Tooooooooo fast. I created a workshop with that in mind. This 90-minute online workshop will be an introduction to the Fair Play Method with a focus on the cards that matter the most when it comes to managing life during the school year (and during breaks). You'll leave the course with: ❤️ a new vocabulary for talking about and thinking about domestic life ❤️ a plan for finding more equity at home Fair Play is a time and anxiety-saving system that offers couples a completely new way to divvy up their domestic responsibilities. Fair Play is not about blame. It's not about 50/50. Fair Play is about a fair and equitable division of domestic labor rooted in your shared values. It's about taking the time to have the conversations that matter to bring your shared vision to life. Fair Play is about treating your home as your most important organization. Get ready for less resentment, more efficient communication, and more time to do the things that light you up (alone and as a couple)! After the class, I'll send you: ✨ A downloadable copy of the Fair Play cards ✨ A quick start @fairplaylife manual ✨ A spreadsheet to help you manage your deck The workshop will take place on Zoom. You can participate as much or as little as you like. You are welcome to keep your video off. Space is limited. $30/household (Couples or one parent welcome.) One of my biggest challenges upon receiving my J.D. was how to best distinguish myself from the thousands of law school graduates who finish every year. Working full-time was necessary - bills, obligations, and other expenses were always coming. While it would've been nice to take a clerkship or part-time internship, they simply weren't feasible for me. What I do have are skills, tools, and real-world experience accrued along the way that might not always be properly conveyed on a traditional black-and-white resume. So, with some of those skills I do have, I created a microsite to tell *my* story. My goals, my assets, and the talents I have developed in over a decade that will help me stand out in a crowded field. https://christianwagner.me
