A little bit of interesting history for you today June 19th, 1865, when Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas, confirming the war's end and ensuring the freedom of all enslaved individuals. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was a beacon of hope in 1863, it took over two years for its promises to be realised in Texas, the last state of the Confederacy with institutional slavery. As we commemorate this pivotal moment in history, let's reflect on the journey towards equality and justice. The resilience and courage of those freed on Juneteenth continue to inspire. Let's honour their legacy by fostering inclusivity and championing diversity in our workplaces and communities. Yet, as we celebrate progress, let us also acknowledge the road ahead. The pursuit of justice is ongoing, and we must commit ourselves to creating a future where opportunity and freedom are not just ideals but realities for all. This Juneteenth, take time to educate, to celebrate, and to act. Whether through community service, participating in events, or simply broadening our collective understanding—every effort counts in honouring this significant day in history. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Equality

Happy Juneteenth! Today marks a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing quest for equality. 🌍✊ The Emancipation Proclamation outlawed slavery in the U.S. in 1863. While Confederate states initially resisted, it wasn't until June 19, 1865, that Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, delivering the news of freedom to all enslaved individuals. This historical milestone led to the official proclamation of Emancipation Day in Texas in 1938. Texas went on to become the first state to establish Juneteenth as a state holiday in 1980. Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021. It became the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was adopted in 1983. As we commemorate this important day, let's reflect on our shared history and responsibility. Let's pledge to actively cultivate inclusivity in our workplaces and communities. And let's work together towards a future where diversity flourishes and opportunities abound for all. #Juneteenth #Freedom #Inclusivity #Equality #InspireChange #DEI

Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom, Inclusion and Reflection Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the abolition of slavery, implementing the Emancipation Proclamation. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 186f3, but the news took over two years to reach Texas due to communication delays. Today, Juneteenth is a time to celebrate progress and honor the resilience of our past. It’s a moment for self-reflection: What more can we do to dismantle racism, promote inclusion, and ensure true liberty for all? Let’s continue learning, engaging, and working toward a more inclusive society. #Juneteenth #JuneteethCelebrations #blackhistory #humanrights #antiracism #inclusion

On Juneteenth it is important to reflect on where we have been and what still needs to be done.
On Juneteenth, we honor the end of slavery in the U.S. while recognizing the ongoing fight for true equality. Although the Emancipation Proclamation freed enslaved people in 1863, it took over two years for that news to reach the last remaining enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865. While we've made progress, systemic racism persists. At Griesing Mazzeo Law, we stand against all forms of oppression and injustice. As a women-owned firm, promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal rights is central to our mission. We wish everyone a reflective Juneteenth as we continue marching towards true liberation. #juneteenth

The United Nations General Assembly marks #InternationalDayofRememberanceofVictimsofSlaveryandTransatlanticSlaveTrade on 25th March 2024 in New York. The key note speaker is #Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, who is also the #ViceChancellor of the University of the West Indies, while the Youth speaker is Yolanda Renee King, an author and granddaughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr among others. Racism– the ideology and harm that underpinned the trans-Atlantic slave trade – is still common even in the 21st Century. It marks out some people for lower-quality services, fewer opportunities, and pervasive, corrosive contempt. Racism brings exclusion, discrimination, hatred and conflict. And those who endure this racism, even today, are often descendants of those who suffered enslavement in the past. The history of slavery is a terrible reminder of inhuman suffering, injustice and loss. But it is also the story of a victorious struggle against oppression and for freedom – a quest to fulfil our universal human rights. Racial discrimination is especially harmful to the women, men and children whose equality is denied, and whose rights are violated and blocked. But in a broader sense, racism damages us all. All of humanity is made poorer when groups of people are demeaned, dehumanised and held back from realising their full potential. In this anniversary year of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it is urgent that we renew our commitment to eliminating racism. And not just our commitment: our action. On this day, I remember the millions of victims who were torn from their homes, sold and exploited. I honour their humanity. #endracism #equality #humanrights

On this Juneteenth, let us reflect on the essence of this historic day and the unfinished battle for racial justice in our country. Juneteenth celebrates the day in 1865 when Union forces arrived in Galveston, Texas and proclaimed that all enslaved people were officially free. This occurred over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Although Juneteenth is a commemoration of independence and liberty, it also serves as an awareness of the prolonged and devastating history of slavery and systemic racism in the United States. Let us honor the courage and fortitude of everyone who fought for freedom and justice and let us commit ourselves to establishing a more inclusive, equitable, and just future for all.
