Do you want to be a better Live Event Professional? Do you want to know what it takes to make it in the business? I've posted a variety of Lessons Learned in the past year but I'm going to change things up a bit now and instead of posting a list of things, I'm going to focus each post on one single lesson learned in my time and elaborate on it. Today's Lesson. Learn from the bottom up. I started in college as a part time event staff employee. Today, I have been in the business for 30+ years and have worked thousands of events. I'm glad I spent years in a concession stand, years in a parking lot, years in front of house positions showing people to their seats and taking tickets. These experiences have taught me how to be a better professional. I understand what nearly everyone on the team is dealing with in their day to day. I learned things that still help me today that were not obvious at the time. Dealing with guests, staff management, accounting, inventory control, planning ahead, budgeting, you name it. These are all skills that I still use every day. It is easy to get impatient and want to grow faster, or see others advancing faster than you may be and wonder why it is not happening for you. Take a deep breath. If you want to be in the business, and have a career, sometimes it is a game of patience. You are only competing with yourself and the best that you can be, no one else. We all grow at different paces. Embrace the role you are in, I was an Ops guy for 5 years in an amphitheatre and thought I had it all figured out after the 2nd year, but then I kept going and I was still finding ways to grow and improve after year 5. No matter how good you may be today, you can still get better. Keep grinding and your opportunities will come. EASY! Make it easy! Our number one task when closing a corporate event (apart from working our magic in the streets), is to make it easy for event planners to make their running and brisk walking tours successful. This means: 1. Owning as much of the planning and coordination as possible 2. Equipping the conference organisers to promote the activity to ensure participation and overall success.   3. Provide peace of mind - which in our case is local knowledge, advice and flexibility. 4. Fast communication and quite a few "no problem"s. Thankfully my Go! Running Tours colleagues are the no-problem type of colleagues 💪 ...and in the background training and supporting our local Lead Guides to ensure they are equipped to provide some exceptional experiences. The inaugural Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit by SuperYacht Times strategically supported by Simpson Superyachts, a superyacht division of Simpson Marine Limited, is taking place in Hong Kong on the 5th and 6th of June at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel. The summit aims to develop the Asian #superyacht market in a bid to attract more #yachts to the region and we are now able to share the initial topics alongside some of the first speakers. A panel discussion with a number of local brokerage experts is now officially announced, with panelists discussing the most important topics around the sale of #superyachts in the Asian markets.
