UPDATE: Per PWU's instagram, pressure from the imminent strike led to a bargaining breakthrough, and the union has halted the strike. Congratulations to the PWU bargaining team and I hope the agreement turns out well! -- The Sierra Club staff in the Progressive Workers Union go on strike tomorrow, to fight unfair labor practices and earn a fair contract. Solidarity means not crossing their picket lines, even online! Thankfully, the PWU has put out a helpful guidance doc (linked below). A couple of highlights: -do not visit the Sierra Club website -do not join meetings with Sierra Club staff -do not respond to emails from the Sierra Club or Sierra Club staff if at all possible -do not engage with Sierra Club social media If this isn't possible for you, PWU asks that you speak out in support of strikers when you engage with the Sierra Club--whether that's in your email, on a video call, or in person. https://lnkd.in/gtzhP6N5

Date: September 30, 2024 Re: Port Strike Update Hello All, Here is the latest from AFT: As we approach the deadline, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) strike is imminent, with less than 15 hours left before the strike is set to begin at 12:01 AM tomorrow. Key Updates: 1) There were no negotiations over the weekend, bringing us close to a coastwide strike by the ILA. 2) USMX met with Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su, while the ILA declined to meet. USMX remains firm on negotiating only at the bargaining table. 3) The ILA announced a strike at all Atlantic and Gulf Coast ports from Maine to Texas, citing decades of wage stagnation among other grievances. ILA unity is steadfast as they prepare to hit the picket lines tomorrow. Stay tuned for further updates after the ILA tomorrow morning at 11 am. #PortStrike #ILAStrike #SupplyChain #PortOperations #LaborNegotiations #MaritimeIndustry

❗EIS-FELA Strike Announcement Please note, that the strike action is part of National Strike Action across all Colleges in Scotland. As you are aware, College lecturers who are members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS-FELA) Union, voted in favour of action short of strike (ASOS), which started on Monday 12 February 2024 as well as undertaking national strike action. In addition to a national day of strike action that took place on Thursday 29 February 2024, EIS members employed by South Lanarkshire College have been asked by their trade union to undertake a programme of discontinuous industrial action consisting of strike action on the following days: Friday 19 April 2024, Tuesday 23 April 2024 and Thursday 2 May 2024. This is part of a national pay dispute and national strike action affecting all Colleges across Scotland with different colleges striking on different days. As we do not know how many EIS-FELA members will take strike action, students should only attend classes where they have been directly told by their lecturer that the class is still taking place. Otherwise, classes are cancelled. Unless otherwise advised, you will not be required to attend your class on the dates listed and will be recorded as present. The College will remain open for support on the dates listed and all students are encouraged to use this time to carry on with their work via self-study. Update on the ILA Port Strike - October 2024 The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) strike, which began on October 1, 2024, has now impacted approximately 50,000 workers across major East and Gulf Coast ports from Maine to Texas. This historic strike, the first of its kind since 1977, has severely disrupted U.S. supply chains. Central to the conflict are wage disputes, with the ILA demanding a significant raise, aiming for $69 per hour by 2030. Analysts estimate economic losses could reach $5 billion per day, with widespread effects on consumer goods and industrial supplies. President Biden has called for "meaningful" wage increases but remains hands-off regarding direct intervention. Both sides remain firm in their positions, leaving no resolution in sight. East Coast Strike: This article does a good job of recounting past negotiations and providing context of alternative move-forward options to avoid a strike...Experts are sharing that Federal mediators will likely step in as they did so in 2012, two weeks before the contract expired so perhaps we can expect to see some movement early next week in this regard But on the flip side, we may start to see carriers and such start preparing for a potential strike next week as they did in Canada which may cause delays, bottlenecks, regardless of the outcome.

☄️Boeing Is Losing $100 Million To $150 Million A Day Due To Union Strike ⏺Boeing is caught between a rock and a hard place as the strike between it and the International Association of Machinists (IAM) union continues into its second week. ⏺On Monday, September 23, Boeing increased its offer to the union, which represents 33,000 workers. However, the company did not approach the union leadership, but instead sent its “best and final” proposal directly to the workers, which did not please the IAM. ⏺Boeing's latest offer raised wages to 30% from 25% in the previous offer, doubled the signing bonus to $6,000 and increased 401k contributions, among other things. However, as was the case with the first offer, participants remained uninterested in the company's latest offer, which was sent out through the media. ⏺Boeing's insistence on reaching out directly to union members speaks to the challenges the company faces. Boeing is already forced to conduct a significant reassessment of its financial performance. Every day Boeing goes on strike, they lose between $100 million and $150 million. ⏺Without union members working at Boeing's assembly plant in Renton, Washington, the company will be unable to deliver its cash cow, the 737 Max jet. Boeing can still supply its 787 Dreamliners from its nonunion South Carolina plant, but the number of the planes is limited. Boeing delivered 70 737 Max planes in the second quarter, but only nine of its larger Dreamliners.

Customer Success for the West Coast at KlearNow.AI, transforming intricate supply chains into streamlined realities. Converting paperwork into actionable data, insights, and real-time visibility.
Important to stay on top of this for the East Coast and Gulf importers.... the current contract between the two parties is set to expire on September 30, raising concerns among industry stakeholders and shippers about potential disruptions at U.S. Gulf and East Coast ports.
The ILA has already filed required notifications with government agencies and negotiating parties regarding the possibility of a strike if no agreement is reached. However, due to a ‘no strike’ clause in effect until the contract’s expiration, no job actions are expected before October 1. The filing of notifications does not necessarily indicate that a strike will occur.
