Intelligent Materials are materials designed for specific purposes, Steel, Concrete, and Wood have been around for years, and new and Smart materials have come and gone, there is a large gap between what is required and what is available, to reduce maintenance, replacement, and failures, new intelligent materials are required which can regenerate, heal and upgrade, where are these going to come from? when are they coming? All attention is nowadays on electronics and EV. The Aerospace industry has taken the materials to another level of performance, intelligence, and reliability, The Mining industry needs some Intelligent/Smart Materials, one of the constraints in mining deeper is materials for cage ropes, that are strong and light enough to go beyond 5000m below surface, GET is also a contain to mine more efficiently, the weight of steel structures is one of the largest responsible for Diesel consumption, maintenance of steel structures is nowadays hugely expensive. Not sure if Cambridge and MIT are looking into these, but someone will have to if we want to increase our success into sustainability.

One of the biggest hurdles is the general safety of the pipes, which have to be weatherproof even in extreme areas. On the other hand, they should have as few connecting elements as possible, as these are inherently a weak point and encourage leaks, for example, that pose a security thread to the environment. However, if the terrain is particularly challenging, it may be necessary to lay more connections in order to adapt to the terrain without risking too much distance unnecessarily, which in turn increases the general project costs. However, in order to maintain operations, it is crucial that the pipes are laid quickly and with low manpower requirements. To achieve this, German manufacturer Rädlinger primus line GmbH has developed the Primus Line® Overland Piping system that considerably reduces the effort. One reason for this is the structure of the aramid-reinforced and composite liner with leak-free connectors which makes it much more durable and flexible than other piping at the same time. The system is specifically developed for above-ground piping of demanding and potentially hazardous media.
