For many years, Lisa placed all her self-worth on her flashy job title.   At dinner parties she could tell her friends what important projects she was working on and what interesting people she worked with.   The company that she worked for was selling products that are “nice to have”.    Even though she was high up and she worked closely with senior management, she felt that her job was meaningless and not helping the world become a better place.   Her ultimate dream was to contribute something meaningful to the world. She wanted to make the world a better place for her kids to grow up in.    The products that she was selling did not add anything and her job was making her feel miserable.    We decided to uncover what is more important to her: a flashy job title or doing meaningful work and giving back to society.   She chose the second option and found a new job.   What happened next was that her self-worth skyrocketed because she was doing something for herself.    She had found a new passion and drive. She started speaking differently and behaving differently. Time flies when you’re having fun! I can hardly believe it’s been two months since I started my new role The Hamilton Club; it’s been an incredible journey so far. Rewinding the clock a bit before I landed in my dream job, I spent the previous six months “soul searching” for the next move in my career. It’s a long and complicated story that’s worth sharing (feel free to reach out if you need encouragement persevering through a job search or career transition). In this period, I was fortunate enough to connect with the wonderfully talented Yoni Abreu, a Human Resources and career consultant. It’s funny, I connected with Yoni when I was previously in a business development role and she was also in another role (theres power in your network!). Anyway, my main priority in invesiting in Yoni’s services was purely motivational at the time. At some point I had hit a rut, I couldn’t crack the ATS, I was receiving rejection letters daily with no feedback; I was frustrated and hit the wall. I needed someone to be / hold me accountable, and I have to say it couldn’t have worked out any better. Yoni is a invested in your success. She’s incredibly insightful and tactful when it comes to your next career move. What I enjoyed most about the process was the collborarion. We built robust CV’s, tested them, tweaked them, and tested them again. We narrowed down our scope to focus our efforts with pin point accuracy. It was alot of work and in the end, it paid for itself. Front front to back, it took about 5 weeks to land in my next role! 5 weeks, after six months of struggle. Thought of the Day - September 04, 2024 A little job well done is the first step toward a bigger one. Achievement is more of a process than an event. Great success is achieved after a long string of small successes. Most of us earn our stripes one step at a time, and we work our way up through the ranks. When we begin our careers, we are given assignments that are commensurate with our skills and experience. As we prove our worth to the effort, we are naturally entrusted with more responsibility for one position and do so with an eye toward the next one. Do your absolute best every day, but always plan for the future.
