WEDNESDAY WINS The power of ONE. This past weekend I watched the Southeast Crossfit Semi Finals where the top 11 athletes advance to the 2024 Crossfit Games. After three days of competition, ONE point separated the 11th and 12th place spot. The athlete who fell one point short of achieving her dreams of competing in the Games congratulated her fellow competitors and then buried herself in her coach to hide the tears of disappointment. I have thought about her ever since and wondered what will she do with that disappointment. Will she channel it and train even harder? On the flip side of this story where an athlete fell one point short there is an infamous sports moment in the south where ONE second was added to the play clock in a football game called The Iron Bowl (2013)between rivals Alabama and Auburn. A play was called and most everyone thought the game was over. But one second was put back on the play clock. Alabama kicked a field goal. Alabama Missed. Auburn ran the ball back 109 yards for a touchdown and to win the game. No other game matters to Crimson Tide and War Eagle fans than the Iron Bowl. That ONE second changed the entire outcome and bragging rights for the next 365 days. The power of ONE. How would you handle a defeat by such a small margin?
