𝐁𝐢𝐠𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 - 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮? For many #BigLaw firms, partner election season is here, which for a select number of hard working Associates has marked the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. Before diving into the numbers, an individual shout-out has to be given to Kirkland & Ellis, who set the bar with a whopping 205 𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓 back in October. This isn't a surprise, as the firm's fast and transparent path to partnership has long been one of its most appealing characteristics. Promotions effective January 1, 2024: 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐡, 𝐒𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞 & 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐋𝐋𝐏 - 4 new partners 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐦 & 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐬 - 34 new partners 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 & 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐋𝐋𝐏 - 32 new partners 𝐆𝐢𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐮𝐧𝐧 - 35 new partners 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐥, 𝐆𝐨𝐭𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥 & 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐋𝐏 - 16 new partners 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐛 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧 & 𝐇𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐋𝐏 - 24 new partners 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐋𝐋𝐏 - 21 new partners 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 & 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐋𝐋𝐏 - 42 new partners 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥, 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐬, 𝐑𝐢𝐟𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝, 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐧 & 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐋𝐏 - 12 new partners 𝐒𝐤𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧, 𝐀𝐫𝐩𝐬, 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 & 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐦 𝐋𝐋𝐏 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 - 24 new partners (made effective in April) 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐁𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 - 30 new partners (made effective in May) 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐞 & 𝐏𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐧 - 7 new partners (made effective in July) 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐤 & 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐋𝐋𝐏 - 13 new partners (made effective in August) These new #partner classes are always interesting to track because if you weren't aware, not all partner-tracks are created equal. For some of these newly-elected partners, the announcements came as no surprise, because like Kirkland their firms have very transparent promotion schedules. For others, it was the result of a combination of opportunity and years of outworking their peers. So if you are an associate--even a very junior one--and partnership is an option you'd like to have down the road, these are things you need to start considering.
