Two Biggest Takeaways from Our Weekly Team Meeting
I absolutely love our weekly team meetings, but I’d be lying if I said we’ve nailed the perfect format, especially as the team has grown.
Balancing getting across key information, involving multiple voices, and avoiding it feeling like I’m giving a half-time rugby speech about 'getting stuck in' isn’t easy. But we’re figuring it out as we go.
What’s worked well for us is mixing it up at the start of the month, we focus on plans and priorities. Mid month, it’s about tracking progress and highlighting upcoming big moments or campaigns. End of the month, like this week, we review how we’re tracking and reflect on lessons learned.
This week’s format of ‘two wins, one learning, and one focus’ worked great. Simple, effective, and engaging.
I’d love to hear what formats have worked well in others team meetings, growing or established. Always keen to learn and try things as we grow.
We had a really brilliant team meeting today and these were the two biggest takeaways this week. What we did was we got everyone to prepare their two biggest wins this month, their biggest learning of the month so far. And then the thing that they were gonna be working on for the rest of the week that was really gonna move the needle in the business just turned out to be a really great format. We split everything up into the the different divisions that we sort of look at marketing, ambassadors, community, etcetera. There's more than one person in that team. They kind of presented together. It was just a really great, I think it's really cool for the team to be able to get up in front of everybody and share some of the things that they've been working on. For us all to hear about different learnings that people are having in the business. I think the nature of a startup is that everyone's generally so busy doing their own thing that they're not always aware of some of the other things that are going on around them. Even if it isn't a a small team and a small office like this, I think it's always a nice moment as well for people to be able to get up and talk about their work. And there's an element of, you know, them being proud about some of the things that we achieved. And I think that always just creates a nice atmosphere. The first one isn't about 60% of people's learnings. The word communication came up and I think it's one of the biggest challenges in a growing team is the more. People that are added, the, the more layers of communication that there is, we're extraordinarily clear that we want to remain a lean, fast moving team and we need to cut communication as directly as we as we can. And we don't want to be one of these businesses that there's loads of sub conversations going on. What we say to the team of your sort of 85% confident in the answer you're going to get. And it's not something super important, just get after it. Action creates momentum and momentum creates opportunities. So that's a big thing that we really drive here. The second one is that we need to enjoy the process. And this is one that we're talking about all the time. Their business like this with this, you know, there's so much going on, there's so much opportunity, it can feel like you're on the conveyor about the whole time. No chasing sales targets, chasing end of year targets. And we're a business that's constantly talking about purpose over product. That's how we view it and we stay true to ourselves. We stay true to our values on the wall, our purpose, our vision. Then the outcome of that will be product sales, something that's always like tough to refine and you know you got one goal and you've got five more waiting for you. So that was another thing of people talking about making sure we enjoy the appropriate process, making sort. Sure that we celebrate the wins. It's something we're talking about here all the time and something that we need to continue. So communication and enjoying the process.

Have you ever had a boss who kept pushing teamwork and bonding, only to end up with the team rallying against them? 😬
Our team got super close thanks to all the bonding activities. But then we started disagreeing more with management. 🤔

In Team building, small adjustments must be made to bring out the best in all players. Multiply that by 2 Teams and you double the accomplishments. #teambuilding#goldcoastmanagement#teamtaylor
Teamwork is a great ingredient in ensuring the overall team success and that goals are scored.
Envision the concept of players on a football pitch. They well understand the positions they play in and how to ensure they score the goals for their team. Therefore for a team to succeed all players must clearly understand their role.
