It apparently dates back to Shakespearean times, when audiences would express their appreciation by banging their wooden chairs on the theatre floor instead of clapping. Candidate Top Tip! I know I share a name with the great Sherlock Holmes' sidekick, but let’s be clear—I’m not a detective. I'm just a normal guy really, who loves placing people in roles that they will enjoy. Recently I've been receiving CV's that have taken some skill to decipher. I'm not sure what the reason is, but please stop it. Let’s keep things straightforward! Here are some quick tips to make your CV stand out (for the right reasons): Keep It Simple: Avoid using multiple colours and fancy fonts. Stick to a professional, easy-to-read format. Your CV should be clear, not a fricking rainbow. Organise for Impact: Place your skills, interests, and qualifications in a logical order. Scattering information across the page in random boxes makes it hard for people to connect the dots. Think of your CV as a story—make it easy to follow. Chronological Clarity: List your job roles in reverse chronological order. Include the company name, your job title, and the dates you worked there, making sure you include the months you started/finished as well as the year. Be Concise, Not Cryptic: Get to the point. Don't waffle! Use bullet points to summarise your responsibilities and achievements concisely. Highlight what’s relevant and impressive without burying it under unnecessary details. People shouldn’t have to read an essay to understand that you made the tea. Proofread the bloody thing: Spelling mistakes or grammatical errors can be a deal-breaker. Take the time to double-check your CV. There are probably loads more, feel free to add them below!
