🌟 Care building is intersectional! 🌟 Care building is environmental! 🤝 We often think of community care we might think of collective care and even self care - but why are we not thinking of environmental care? We often prioritize human relationships over non human ones, but our wellbeing is inextricably tied to the planet, so let's broaden that definition. Care is intrapersonal, interpersonal and environmental. When we think of community and culture, let's make sure this type of care is at it's core. Let's MAKE SPACE for discussions around intersectional environmentalism in our community building, and organizational culture to ensure we are care building! #CareCulture #CommunityBuilding #SustainableChange

WHAT MATTERS TO YOU MATTERS! Thriving Natural World How can a community’s environment create well-being? Wellbeing in a community's lived environment has to do with whether streets are designed to be safe and enjoyable for those who are walking or biking. Investing in and fostering walkable neighborhoods enables our communities to create more sustainable, healthier, and connected living environments that benefit community residents and the environment alike. It is about the air and water being safe to breathe and drink as a fundamental aspect of human health, environmental protection, economic prosperity, and social justice. A Thriving natural world also encompasses having infrastructure like broadband internet to connect people to information, education, employment opportunities, and a wide array of services. Building such infrastructure in our communities, especially in rural and underserved areas, ensures equitable access to opportunities. Thriving natural world has to do with the way places and conditions are designed to promote the health and well-being of its residents. It is also about whether there are structures and policies in place, historical or current, that means that people in some neighborhoods may not have a fair chance to thrive. Identifying policies and structures that have cumulatively shaped our communities offers perspective on how we can build all-inclusive communities that promote racial justice and intergenerational well-being. By voting on this domain, we combine effort and work together to prioritize and draw a workable roadmap towards equity and well-being of our communities, one step at a time! 🌳 Empowering Communities Through Green Spaces 🌳 At University of Pittsburgh Center for Sustainable Business, we recognize that minority and low-income communities often have less access to green spaces and the resources to maintain them. This disparity impacts not only the environment but also community health and workforce development. By investing in green spaces, companies can: 🔹 Enhance Health and Well-being: Promote mental and physical health, leading to a more productive and engaged workforce. 🔹 Foster Social Equity: Support inclusive growth and demonstrate strong corporate social responsibility. 🔹 Create Job Opportunities: Develop local employment through landscaping and environmental management roles. 🔹 Strengthen Community Ties: Build stronger, healthier communities that provide a stable environment for local businesses. Let's work together to create sustainable, vibrant communities that benefit everyone. 💪🌱 Source: "Urban green space, public health, and environmental justice" by Jennifer R. While I support sustainability and protecting our environment, parts of this plan concern me. I believe it may negatively impact affordable housing in our community, and portions of it seem like they are counter productive to the stated purpose. We need thoughtful solutions that balance environmental stewardship with economic feasibility. I believe we should work together for a future that ensures a healthy environment and affordable living in the City of Grand Junction. #sustainableliving #AffordableHousingMatters #balancedsolutions #ecoandeconomy #CollaborateForChange #ProtectOurCommunity #sustainabilitywithsense #EnvironmentAndEconomy https://lnkd.in/gMnXqhGm

How can we foster care for the environment in our children? Here are some strategies that can help nurture this care: The most important factor in fostering care for the environment in children is regular exposure to nature. This helps them develop a connection with the natural world and understand the importance of its preservation. Reading storybooks with environmental themes can introduce children to complex topics like climate change in a relatable way. Engaging in conversations about sustainability practices at home can reinforce the importance of environmental care . Encouraging children to spend time outdoors, away from screens, can increase their appreciation for the environment. Involving children in starting and maintaining a vegetable garden teaches them about the life cycle of plants and the importance of caring for the earth. #childrenandsustainability #childrenandenvironment

Balancing development with sustainability ⚖️ Whilst it's more important than ever to protect our environment and push the sustainability adgenda, we also have a housing crisis. I can understand the frustrations of many after the news that 34 areas of green belt have been included for development in the Places for Everyone strategic plan, which outlines planning objectives for the next 17 years. That is 34 areas of green space that we're about to lose in Greater Manchester. But, with 1 in 74 people classed as homeless in Manchester* in 2023, is it a necessity for human rights? I'd love to know people's thoughts on this because personally, I'm torn. *Shelter in January 2023 #environment #development #propertydevelopment #sustainability #greenbelt
