About 30% of America’s roads are in poor condition. Much of the interstate highway system is built on foundations 50-60 years old. To visualize the severity of this problem, you can look at Texas Department of Transportation. If you took every lane mile owned by TXDOT alone, you could drive around the earth’s circumference 8x, not including city streets or county roads. That’s just one of 50 states (albeit one of the largest). Why should you care? Well, to be frank, we don’t have the workforce to do this in a timely manner. Here how YOU can help: • Infrastructure Companies — pay well, create a culture that empowers people young and old, and provide them with a career path. • Construction Workers — seek purpose in your work. What you do is damn important and the work you do matters greatly to the success of society. • Everyone Else — Construction is a ridiculously noble career. The ball is in your court to help change society’s view of blue collar work. Check your bias, respect the people who make your infrastructure possible, and speak up next time you hear someone bashing Blue Collar humans. Who knows? Maybe a career in construction is where you’ll find your passion and purpose.
