The People Who Shaped Me as a Businessperson, Part 4 During my consulting years, I worked on various projects with a certain sponsor who was the senior executive director of a global company. He often asked me: "Is the situation you’re explaining good thing or bad? Why?" "What are you trying to say? Summarize it simply." "How long will it take to implement your proposal? Why not sooner? Why?" But his most impactful piece of advice was: "Hirose-san, you approach everything like a sprint race, but management is a marathon. There are fast-paced moments, slow ones, uphill climbs, and downhills. You even need to outmaneuver rivals. What matters is winning in the end." Though I often argued back, I now see him as a specialist in asking great questions. Every 6 months, we conduct a comprehensive business review with one of our clients, encompassing service, quality, delivery, innovation, and sustainability. This review holds immense significance at Spearhead Global, as our score on this review stands as our second company metric. Exciting news this time around - we achieved a perfect score of 100/100, surpassing our target of 95. It's not common for companies to achieve this milestone, and it's a testament to our team's dedication. While I'm not here to boast, hitting such a significant goal prompts me to ponder - what's next after reaching such a major milestone? We thrive on stretch goals and ambitious visions. As we aim for continued excellence, what do you suggest should be our next target for the upcoming 6 months? We can't aim for 102 next time (yes, I checked!), so I would love to hear from YOU about what you would do to keep a team inspired and motivated. KEEPING a score of 100 isn't nearly as exciting as reaching it, so I want to create a new goal to keep us pushing forward. By the way - this win goes out to Vianney Becerril, Janelle Biehl John C.
