I recently came across an insightful report on the outlook for the asset management industry that highlights several key trends. It underscores the importance of enhancing our generative AI skills, particularly as many express concerns about job displacement due to AI. Interestingly, CEOs in the sector are adopting a positive stance, viewing this as an opportunity to invest in staff training rather than layoffs. Despite prevailing worries about a recession, it's encouraging to see that a significant 73% of asset management CEOs are optimistic about industry growth, with 80% confident in their own company's prospects. The report also addresses contemporary challenges in wealth management, such as talent shortages, rising cybersecurity threats— in my opinion, especially critical for firms trading digital assets —and the ongoing need to maintain stakeholder trust.

It was fantastic to hear from the panel of industry leaders today about how companies are developing their future operating models to integrate technology while maintaining investment in operations. What truly resonated with me was the importance of not just focusing on cost-cutting and savings. Instead, we need to prioritise and shift towards realising both existing and new value in our operations to ensure business continuity and the successful implementation of new technologies.
Great event this morning courtesy of the SFE asset management group who kindly hosted an online webinar for our members, looking at the latest trends which are impacting asset managers today before translating that into a ‘day in the life of a global COO’. A huge thank you to our panellists for taking the time to share their insights with our membership this morning and thank you also to our attendees for coming along. We hope you all enjoyed the session. Caoimhe Munif | Terri Van Praagh | Sheenagh Dougall | Martin Kwiatkowski | Mike Tumilty | Jayne Currie
