It was great to hear from some of the titans of San Diego's building industry at the Building Industry Association of San Diego (BIA) Meet The Builders event at the Coaster Room / Belmont Park last week. The discussion covered the many challenges of building in different jurisdictions. The consensus was it's difficult everywhere, yet the good news is the City of San Diego got relatively high marks due to the zoning changes they've made over the last several years. Important Update on the North East Pickering Secondary Plan We're seeing some significant potential changes in the North East Pickering Secondary Plan. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has requested removal of the land within the 2051 Urban Expansion Area that overlaps with the Minister’s Zoning Order 102/72 (Pickering Airport). This decision aims to prevent conflicts and ensure the urban expansion aligns with existing provincial plans and zoning orders. The Warnell Tract development proposal in Pembroke, Bryan County, includes plans for a hotel, a drive-in bank, fast-food restaurants, and a substantial 2,000 homes. Situated on Highway 67 and Sims Road, the development will feature a mix of single-family detached houses, townhomes, and apartments across more than 500 acres of land. Approximately 53 acres are designated for commercial use.
