Doing your job the right way Are you doing your job the right way🤔? Years ago, I worked with a teammate to evaluate Operational Risk solutions to replace the existing one that had reached end-of-life. Both of us picked solution A which had the requirements we were looking for. New boss had wanted solution B which was worse off than the existing system. I managed to convince the new boss to pick solution A and it was approved by the Committee😍. Both my teammate and I worked to roll out Solution A to the Bank Group. Strong objection from the risk managers in our department and some from other departments in Singapore😱. Surprisingly, there was no objection from risk managers outside Singapore. I was shocked when my teammate turned against me and went onto the side of those who objected to the implementation😱. I had to fight the battle alone😓. Was my teammate doing his job the right way🤔? He was involved in the evaluation. The solution was approved by the Committee. It was the best we could find at that time. The old system could not be used as it had reached the end of life. A team lead of another team played political game to stop the implementation. She instigated others to go against the system implementation as my team would get the credit for a successful rollout. The users at that time did not like the existing system but when a new system was to be implemented, they wanted to keep the existing system😓! What could have been done to address such a situation? It would have helped if the new boss had stepped out to request for support for the system project. I managed to overcome all the obstacles and implemented the system as per schedule! Other areas like risk governance could also have similar problems where people do not carry out their jobs the right way. Let's say it is the internal policy and practice to conduct risk assessments and there are strong objections/reluctance to perform the risk assessment. What should be done? Do your part in the risk governance role to persuade and get buy-in, or to join the voices to protest / object?
