“Would you like an egg with that? This is a classic story from the great depression, that is still being used today. Sales technique = "Alternate Choice!" This is a classic UPSELL,or, ADD ON, moving lower cost items with huge margins. During my summers in college, I worked in retail @Footlocker. We called these "S1's" While walking with the customer to the register with their ready to purchase sneakers, I'd chime in with.... "Would you like the green or red laces with these to match your shorts!" -OR- "Would you like to go with the spray or cream cleaner to protect and keep your sneakers lasting longer." -OR- "You mentioned doing a lot of running, here are the insoles I highly recommend to ALL my BIG time runners, like yourself!" This "Elmer Wheeler" story summarizes it best, its also one of my first and favorite sales trainers... J Douglas Edwards! Over 25-years ago someone gifted me a case of cassette tapes, you guessed it - J Douglas Edwards (legend). I would listen to them every night when in media sales in Boston.
