“Talent has a broad definition. Most of the time it’s not about having a gift; it’s about having grit. In tennis, a great forehand with sick racket head speed can be called a talent. But in tennis, like in life, discipline is also a talent, and so is patience. Trusting yourself is a talent. Embracing the process, loving the process, is a talent. Managing your life, managing yourself - these can be talents, too. Some people are born with them. Everybody has to work at them.” Roger Federer’s commencement speech has been eagerly shared within my circles these past few days. Why is it so... shareable? Federer applies a wide range of public speaking techniques, such as a sense of humour, the rule of three, or easy-to-visualise examples (I can sense some speechwriting support!). He also shares many personal stories, including those about imperfect human nature and flaws we all can relate to. However, what truly stands out is the wonderful analogy of tennis 🎾 providing lessons for life. We have probably heard the same messages a million times before, but isn’t it nice to discover yet another way of packaging them? It’s like unwrapping a birthday gift we already expect to like. That’s what I love commencement speeches for, too. If you haven’t seen this one yet, #MondayMotivation will be just the right excuse. ↓ #PublicSpeaking #RogerFederer Dartmouth College https://lnkd.in/eXNzmvsb

Not the usual post from me…..but I couldn’t resist posting about the recent speech from 🎾 tennis legend Roger Federer who received an honourary doctorate at Dartmouth College in the US on Sunday 🙌🏼🎾🙌🏼 In his unforgettable commencement speech, Federer gave inspiring life lessons. He said the word “effortless” is a myth and that he is what he is today not just because of #talent but because it took years and years of hard work He talks about each point being the focus…to forget the last point and to concentrate on the present point without worrying about future points. A great speech for all of us as it can be hard to stay in the present. For some of us…we can get drawn into chasing future points without learning lessons from lost points or celebrating the strategies that won us points. Losing is helpful…it’s a platform for growth-so not fearing it is healthy. In world with a declining global workforce, Roger’s speech also reminds me of the talent and experience that exists in the 50+ age group…there is an abundance of wisdom waiting to be tapped into. ⁉️So what do we need to do to hold onto that wisdom and indeed attract these sages back to the workplace? Watch the video…I’m sure you’ll be glad you did. #sport #rolemodels #motivation #strategicmindset #goals #businessdevelopment

Roger Federer recently gave a commencement address at Dartmouth. If you haven't yet seen it, I suggest watching the whole thing. It's fantastic (and I don't just say that because I'm a tennis fan!). The part that stood out to me most, though, was that life is a series of points, each one of which deserves our complete focus and attention. "In tennis, perfection is impossible. In the 1,526 signals matches I played in my career, I won almost 80% of those matches. Now, I have a question for you. What percentage of points do you think I won in those matches? Only 54%. In other words, even top ranked tennis players win barely more than half of the points they play. When you lose every second point on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot. You teach yourself to think, 'Okay, I double faulted. It's only a point.' 'Okay, I came to the net and I got passed again, it's only a point.' Even a great shot, an overhead backhand smash that ends up on ESPN's Top 10 playlist, that, too, is just a point." Here's why I'm telling you this: when you're playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. And it is. But when it's behind you, it's behind you. This mindset is crucial – because it frees you to fully commit to the next point with intensity, clarity, and focus. You want to become a master at overcoming hard moments. That is, to me, the sign of a champion. The best in the world are not the best because they win every point. It's because they know they'll lose again and again, and have learned how to deal with it. You accept it, cry it out if you need to, and then force a smile. You move on - be relentless, adapt and grow." Watch the full speech here: https://lnkd.in/gNNgVTzb

Tennis legend Roger Federer, a constant source of awe for his impeccable sportsmanship and dedication for me and a lot of people. He delivered a powerful and insightful address to the graduating class of Dartmouth College. His words transcended the world of sports, offering valuable life lessons that resonated deeply with the graduates. Federer challenged the perception of effortless talent, emphasizing the relentless hard work that fuels success. He encouraged the graduates to embrace challenges and setbacks with resilience, reminding them that "It's only a point" in the grand scheme of things. Finally, he emphasized the importance of a fulfilling life beyond their chosen field. He urged them to value relationships, give back to others, and find meaning outside of their careers. This masterclass in emotional intelligence left a lasting impression on the graduates, offering valuable wisdom that will serve them well beyond the commencement ceremony. Once again, “effortless is a myth; it’s only a point; and life is much bigger and it always has more to offer.” So, cease every moment of your life to make it the best. Forget regrets, forgive foes, cherish time with family & friends, embrace the change, be kind & believe. Check out this inspiring speech; And top it with the words of my favourite song from Bon Jovi “I ain’t going to be just a face in the crowd; You are going to hear my voice when I shout it loud. It’s My Life, It’s now or never.” #lessonsforlife #wisdom #sportsmanship #tennislessons #relentless #hardwork #effortless #talent #effortlesstalent #challenges #setbacks #relationships #life #lifelessons #success #family #friends #kindness #believe #emotionalintelligence #relationships #career #lifebeyond

Recently I came across a youtube video of Roger Federer's Lessons of Life Commencement Address to the Darthmouth Uni. Graduates. I could see so many of things he mentioned in his speech aligns with my life. 1. Effortless is Myth : - Work harder to achieve career goals and believe in yourself. - Most of the time it's not about having a gift but it's about having a grit. - In life Discipline is a talent and so is patience. - Trusting yourself is a talent. 2. It's only a Point: - You can work as hard as possible but still can lose. - When you play a point, it has to be most important thing in the world but if you lose, it's behind you. - Whatever game you play in life, sometimes you are going to lose - a point, match or that dream job. Life is roller coaster ride with may ups and downs. - Negative energy is wasted energy. Master overcoming hard moments - Work smarter. 3. Life is bigger than Court: - Look forward and enjoy life, travel, culture, family, friendship. - Sometimes you have to take a chance and figure it out (along the way). - Be kind to one another. #RogerFederer #LifeLessons #Inspiration Short version of speech: https://lnkd.in/geMDb9cu Full version of speech: https://lnkd.in/gfeQd98w

💬 "We don't have to be perfect to be great." Just the other day, I played a tennis match and made a silly mistake that cost me a point. I got so caught up in that mistake that I lost the next point too. To get back into the game, I had to snap out of it and change my mindset. In tennis, mindset is crucial. You can have all the skills and techniques, but without the right mindset, it will be challenging to succeed. Roger Federer, in his inspiring speech at Dartmouth University, emphasised this perfectly. Perfection isn’t the goal – progress is. His insights on embracing mistakes, learning quickly, and moving forward are truly worth a watch. As someone who plays tennis four to five times a week, I often draw parallels between tennis and my everyday work life. That made me think those parallels can also be applied to your LinkedIn activity. 🎾✨ Here are my key takeaways to apply to your LinkedIn activity: ➡️ Embrace Imperfection: Mistakes aren’t failures; they’re stepping stones to improvement. You will get better with each post you create. It's important to make a start. ➡️ Quick Learning: The faster we learn from our mistakes, the quicker we can apply those lessons and advance. Learn from the impressions, engagements and comments on your posts. Test out different techniques and timings. ➡️ Mindset Matters: Whether on the tennis court or on LinkedIn, a positive mindset can make all the difference. Enjoy connecting with your network, exchanging ideas and learning from each other. What are the parallels that you can draw from your interests to your LinkedIn activity or your daily work life? Words of Wisdom from a Champion: Lessons from Roger Federer's Dartmouth College Speech Recently, I came across a inspiring clip of tennis legend Roger Federer addressing graduating students at Dartmouth College. His message resonated deeply, and I wanted to share three key takeaways with you: 1. *Effortless is a myth*: It takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication to make success seem easy. 2. *Focus on the next play*: Don't dwell on the past or get too caught up in celebrating your wins. Fully commit to the next challenge when the last one is behind you. 3. *Life beyond the court (or office)*: Remember that your professional self is only one aspect of your life. There's a whole world beyond your job, and it's essential to nurture your personal growth and relationships. Which of these lessons resonates with you the most? An absolute must-watch whether you are a tennis fan or not: Roger Federer's address in Dartmouth from two weeks ago full of truth about work and life. My personal take-outs: 1. “Effortless is a myth”… “The truth is I had to work very hard to make it look easy” 2. “I believed in myself, but belief in yourself has to be earned” 3. “…talent has a broad definition”… “…discipline is also a talent, and so is patience” 4. “What percentage of points do you think I won in those matches? Only 54%. In other words, even top ranked tennis players win barely more than half of the points they play. When you lose every second point on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot” 5. “When you’re playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world and it is. But when it’s behind you, it’s behind you. This mindset is really crucial, because it frees you to fully commit to the next point and the next point after that with intensity, clarity, and focus” 6. “…your opponents have self-doubt, too. Don’t ever forget that” 7. “Tennis, like life, is a team sport. Yes, you stand alone on your side of the net, but your success depends on your team, your coaches, your teammates, even your rivals. All these influences help to make you who you are”

MASTERCLASS FROM ROGER FEDERER: Behind Perfection lies hard work…and 46% of lost points! As a Swiss, I might be neutral, but there’s no question in my mind about who the GOAT of tennis is. Roger Federer’s recent commencement speech at Dartmouth college deeply moved me, and I feel compelled to share it here. His words resonate deeply with my passion for tennis and my commitment to excellence. When a client receives the keys to their new home, everything appears seamless: the furniture are perfectly matched, the deeds are signed, and the house features flawless finishes and meticulous details. But behind this perfection lies an incredible amount of hard work, planning, and dedication that clients don’t see but which professionals like us are passionate about - and which make us grow. Federer, the greatest tennis player of all time, spoke about how what seems effortless is actually the result of relentless effort and perseverance. True success doesn’t come from talent alone but from determination and grit. His journey, marked by discipline and hard work, parallels the behind-the-scenes efforts required to deliver quality and to exceed client’s and sometimes our own expectations. His speech highlighted the beauty in struggle and the strenght in persistence. The part that struck me the most was when Roger talked about embracing the process and finding joy in the journey, even when things don’t go as planned, and how important it is to being able to accept our errors (Roger won 80 % of his matches but only 54% of the points!) Our mindset is crucial in all areas of life!! If you haven’t watched the entire speech, I highly recommend at least checking out minute 13:00. His insights are invaluable and inspiring for anyone on a journey toward excellence. Congratulations to the Dartmouth Class of 2024! 🎉 …and to Roger Federer for another outstanding masterclass!! 🔗 Watch Roger Federer’s full commencement speech here: https://lnkd.in/dvSUEG8X #Graduation #ClassOf2024 #RogerFederer #Tennis #Inspiration #HardWork #Leadership #Dartmouth #CommencementSpeech #Masterclass https://lnkd.in/dvSUEG8X

Roger Federer's commencement speech for Dartmouth's Class of 2024 has been making the rounds on social, and perhaps unsurprisingly, we're big fans. Here are a few takeaways that got us feeling inspired and ones that we think are great for our followers to think about! 1. "Effortlessness is a myth" - Even the GOATs have to hustle, if anything they're GOATs because they do. 2. Fed won 80% of his matches, but only 54% of the points he played. - There's a narrow margin between greatness and mediocrity, build upon every win because not every swing you take is going to hit. 3. “When you’re playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. But when it’s behind you—it’s behind you. This frees you to fully commit to the next point with intensity, clarity, & focus. Negative energy is wasted energy.” 4. "I play chess online with strangers" - GOATs are nerds just like us. Also, mental breaks are important. 5. Dartmouth has a sweet dais! A tree stump as a podium? Pretty cool. - No takeaways here, just felt worth mentioning. Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/gTUCUdjc #thegoat #inspiration #greatspeeches #classof2024

Happy Mid-Week to My Network. I often Post about My Passion for Sport. I don't know I've ever shared that I used to be a Tennis Player. As a Youngster, Tennis was a Sport My Father and I connected over. In High School I helped My Team Qualify for the State Tournament in an Epic Match that I Love to share if anyone ever wants to ask.. In College I got to Play a Season at an Intermediate School before transferring to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. As an Adult I continued to Play and it's been a Tremendous Outlet for Competition, Exercise, and Overall Good Health. In Singles Tennis, it is one of the Truest Form in any Sport of 1 vs 1 Competition. The Only Person to Blame for Failure is Yourself and the Only Person to Prevail if You Win is Yourself. In addition, I've Always been a follower of the Sport. I've tried to learn what makes these Individuals driven to Succeed in a Sport that's Focus is not a Team but rather Solo. As I've watched these Athletes over the Years, Roger Federer has ALWAYS stood out to Me. There are Many Reasons Why. Too Many to list here.. This past Weekend, Roger Federer was the Commencement Speaker for the Dartmouth College 2024 Spring Graduation. Needless to say, I tuned in. I wanted to share for My Network, Roger's Three Tennis Lessons: 1) Effortless is a Myth - Hard Work created this Appearance. 2) It is Only a Point - Only 1 Player Wins in a Tournament. But in Life, the Point is Important. But after that Point is Over, it is just a Point. We will Lose in Life. But that Loss is just a Point. Overcoming and Moving On is the Goal. 3) Life is Bigger than the Court - Everyday We do things that We believe are the Most Important things. Mainly Work and Life's Responsibilities. But NEVER forget that the World is much Bigger than Our Day to Day. We should NEVER Lose sight that Our Main Goal should be what We can do for Others while We Focus on our Day to Day as well. Life, like Tennis, is about Hard Work, Discipline, Embracing Challenge, and finding Confidence in Yourself; but it is also about Helping Others, Volunteering, and being a Positive Impact in the Overall Grand Scheme.. https://lnkd.in/gUdSpvc5 #LifeLessons #Commencement2024 #MakeAnImpact #LifeIsASport
