I've noticed an uptick in content from UV suppliers on the merits of choosing OEM parts. I thought I'd jump in as well, as over my career I've championed the use of OEM spares here at Nuvonic and before that when I was at WEDECO. It's easy to think suppliers want to retain parts sales for revenue purposes only. Yes, revenue is important, but it's about establishing a best practice; it aims to reduce downtime and ensure performance requirements are met. You're investing in components that have been rigorously tested and designed to meet the highest standards, ensuring longevity and durability. Using OEM parts doesn't just maintain the warranty; it validates it. You're safeguarding your investment and ensuring that your equipment continues to operate within the specifications outlined by the manufacturer. OEM parts are engineered to extract the maximum performance from your machinery. Nuvonic expands on the use of OEM parts in this recent Cleanroom Technology article.

So many things to do and yet so little time to do it. Who is going to this year embedded world Exhibition&Conference? It would be great to meet you all and network. Just let us know where you are at. Also, what do you think what should not be missed?

What is a must-see at #EmbeddedWorld24? 🤔
The show is huge and as an exhibitor, you have little time to browse around.
So, what is one thing that you are exhibiting or know of that should not be missed?
I’d appreciate it if you could share in the comments using the format:
‘Must-see - Company - Booth No.’
I’ll start!

Thank you to the organizers of the #SoSy2024 (the 2nd Solid Symposium). As a data law researcher, I found this event incredibly enriching. I consider it essential for legal obligations to be developed in communication with those who will be implementing them and in alignment with the current and developing technical standards. To me, this event highlighted this need!
From the plenary talks / Keynote speakers, these were the core messages I received:
-Sarven Capadisli (chaired by Elfi Goesaert) reflected on the importance of developing a socially aware web. He highlighted how the web has transformed the world, and developers play a role in making it a more accessible medium. Solid is not an ecochamber but part of the greater web. It needs to be grown in adherence to existing principles and developing standards, putting the user at the centre. This is a process that will never be “done”; it is continually evolving.
- Bert Verdonck (chaired by Tobias Käfer) shared his experience heading Luxembourg’s push for the secondary use of public sector data. He highlighted the importance of having an interdisciplinary and diverse team, pursuing projects with a reasonable scope that have an impact within a 3-6 months timeline (and sequential projects which continue to create value), and the under-represented relevance of data stewardship as a stage in the data value chain.
- Steffen Staab (chaired by Juan G. Diaz Ochoa) provided an overview of improved technical means to increase the flexibility in data exchanges. He focused on using shape languages (explicitly SHACL) as “data contracts” between knowledge graphs and software codes.
- Jeff Zucker (chaired by Ross Horne) reflected on the beginnings of Solid, a name which comes from “Social Linked Data”. We are all socially connected people, and Solid can be used to foster Compassion, Creativity and Collaboration. This is the core of the Solid Practitioners group he has created to support projects implementing social benefits in Solid.
The breakout rooms focused on many interesting topics. On the first day, I attended the #SolidLab project Sessions (chaired by Peter Mechant). The presentations that took place really resonated with my own PhD topic. I especially enjoyed the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of many of the (Solid) projects, with both theoretical and practical approaches/use cases. The themes included overviews on data sharing, the shaping and implementation of data governance to empower internet users, the regulation of data intermediaries and cooperatives (inc. within the Data Governance Act), the traits of successful data ecosystems business models and the use of Personal Data Stores. The presenters were Melanie Verstraete, Michiel Fierens, Sander Van Damme, Maarten de Mildt, Ruben D'Hauwers, Mathias Maes, August Bourgeus & Stephanie Van Hove. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
Cannot wait to attend in May! See you there?

These two niche exhibitions have quite a high return rate of exhibitors and quality visitors/delegates. Here is why:
KDisplay - exhibition & display graphics have worked with Fortem International on Helitech Expo and DroneX Tradeshow & Conference since the very beginning. It is no accident that they are doing well against all the odds after the Brexit complications in this market sector.
I know that the organisers and KDisplay - exhibition & display graphics have actively invested in making these two shows look like they are high quality events that are open to the public. I also know that the entrances, theatres, stages, general presentation, exhibitor relations and "peace of mind" services were all actively upped a level by both KDisplay - exhibition & display graphics and the organiser in 2020...
...which has lead to the exhibitors making their stands look better
...which has lead to the overall appearance of a quality exhibition
...which has lead to an increase in:
i. a higher standard of visitor/delegate
ii. a higher standard of exhibitor
iii. more rebookings by exhibitors
iv. making this a "go to" annual event
Having foresight to invest and build will reap dividends next year. Cutting costs this year will mean you lose even more next year! #eventplanning#exhibitions
