What makes a good Design Manager? American architect Louis Sullivan, sometimes called the 'father of skyscrapers', famed for creating many of the iconic buildings in Chicago, is also known for his axiom 'form follows function'. In many ways, the modern construction Design Manager is there to juggle the often conflicting pulls of form and function between the myriad professions involved in creating a modern building. Design Managers are there to coordinate all the design work involved in a construction project and manage those involved in delivering that design - from BIM technicians and architects to structural engineers. At the centre of where creativity meets functionality, they play a pivotal role in co-ordinating the design process, ensuring that architectural, engineering, and construction plans align with project objectives, regulatory and compliance issues and what the client requires. In short, they are there to make sure what was conceived in the design studio is what is actually built. To achieve all of this, a good Design Manager needs not only an understanding of design, but of the entire construction process and what each party brings to it, as well as a knowledge of current regulations - such as environmental standards and safety requirements. #DesignManager #Construction #ConstructionCareers #CareerDevelopment
