How's your Monday going? How's your mental health?
I've been fortunate enough to start my day with a 6.30am walk on the beach with my wife and our dogs, followed by breakfast at home with my wife, a quick session at the computer to post a link to a recent podcast that I recorded and then attending a session on a consultancy's bundled pensions offering.
Great start to the day and to the week ahead, but I recognize that not everybody will be in as good a place as I am mentally.
As a proud advocate of the #Movember movement, men's mental health is really important.
Look after yourselves please always speak to someone if you’re feeling low.
Never suffer alone
You are loved
You are needed
You are enough

I was delighted to join Laasya Shekaran of LCP and Simon Kew EPMI of Broadstone alongside Sam Rossiter of Asset TV UK to discuss the Chancellor's pensions review and implications for the market, touching on the push for investment in UK productive finance, sustainable investments and the green agenda, pensions adequacy as well as sharing some of our thoughts on what we would like to see in any second stage review.

Working hard!
After starting with zero wind the wind filled in during the day allowing a circuit of the Isle of Wight, before a good evening with good company at the Folly Inn.
Back to Lymington for another weekend of skippering duties.
A new challenge this weekend with a novice sailor, but luckily four other experienced crew to help me show him the “ropes”.
A hard working week deserves it rewards.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Fortunately I have a weekend ahead of enjoying some sailing, skippering this beautiful yacht.
Monday seems a long way off 😎
Although being a workaholic may not sound like a cause for alarm, it is a legitimate #MentalHealth condition with real and dangerous consequences. https://bit.ly/45EUERq Learn what the common signs of workaholism are and the strategies for overcoming it in Talent Culture, via Cynthia Trivella. #wellbeing
Hot on the heals of celebrating with my industry colleagues at last night’s UK Pensions Awards #UKPA, a closer to home set of celebrations for this evening.
1. Being appointed as a professional trustee to my first pension scheme (and with thanks to the client team for choosing me to sit alongside them).
2. Raising and being paid for my first invoice for some independent covenant consulting work.
3. It’s Friday.
Have a good weekend everyone!
I am delighted to be able to share this news. I look forward to exploring the opportunities available as a Professional Trustee alongside my new colleagues at Capital Cranfield Trustees.
We’re delighted to announce that Darren Masters has joined Capital Cranfield Trustees as a Professional Trustee.
Darren brings over 30 years of experience in restructuring/insolvency and covenant consulting, including 18 years at Mercer where he established and led their Covenant Consulting Group.
Here is the link to the press release: https://lnkd.in/eX9GUXAc
Welcome to Capital Cranfield, Darren!
Not wishing to let the grass to grow under my feet, I’m happy to share that I have started an independent covenant and DB risk consulting business, Ellcam Consulting Limited.
I'm bringing my 30 plus years of financial consulting and 19 years as a founder of today's covenant industry to support trustees and scheme sponsors in managing all aspects of the employer covenant: valuation funding and risk negotiations, intra-valuation monitoring, journey planning, scheme events, corporate transactions and PPF levy management.
Scheme funding levels may have generally improved, but the employer covenant remains a significant risk to be managed. With the new DB code and revised covenant guidance due soon from the regulator, and the challenges already posed by the new moral hazard landscape requiring more in depth consideration of day-to-day business decisions, covenant remains as relevant today as when the industry started.
As I countdown my last three days as a Mercer/MMC employee, thoughts turn to a small celebration to mark the end of my 30 years.
If you fancy a celebratory drink after work on Wednesday 31st January, I have a small private area booked close to Mercer's Tower Place office in London from 5.30pm - venue The Tank & Paddle, Minster Court, London EC3R 7AA.
Send me a private message if you are able to join me.
