*Sings* We are the champions of netball! Last week was the final match in the Go Mammoth® netball league for our London teams and what a match it was! There was some excellent teamwork on the court and the final goal scored was a nail-biter, but the team clinched the win! Three cheers to Christopher Voss, Emma Johnson, Lizzie Louis, Lucy Bills, Rachael Eddom, Eimeir Walsh CTA ACA, Raees Mahmood, Brianna S., Luca Giuricich, Annabel Previte, Emma Harrison and Ellie Sljivic for six weeks of dedicated play, come rain or shine. It was great to have Catalyst Partners and Pure Search on the court with us. Being part of Kernel Global means Dartmouth is part of a highly successful and collaborative group of brands, and Netball is just one of the many activities where we get to do this outside of work. Creating a culture where we can work and socialise together is important, and we're proud of the initiatives our teams create to support this too. In pickleball doubles, two players team up to play on a smaller court. The goal is to score points by hitting the ball on the other team's side. The game starts with a special underhand serve, and the other team must hit the ball back before it bounces twice. There's a specific area close to the net called the "kitchen" that players can't step into unless the ball bounces there first. Without a doubt there is a severe shortage of courts – both indoor and outdoor – in most metro areas and a clear commercial opportunity. Will be interesting to see how the operating economics and return on investment potential, as well as the increasing NIMBY factor, all plays out
With the growing popularity of pickleball I'm not surprised to see the intersection of it with commercial real estate -demand for buildings to be retrofitted for courts, ground up experiential hospitality ventures with pickleball courts being developed etc- I'm also not surprised to see ESPN jump aboard with televising the game, but I'm surprised how quickly some former tennis greats got involved and the size of the prize purses. Naysayers question why ESPN would televise this- I'm old enough to remember when ESPN was mocked for airing poker which was a great viewership success. I'm not sure of the viability of pickleball as a spectator sport but I don't see the demand for more courts being built ending soon
