Celebrating Connecting To Charles Pfeil
=
I recently invited Charles Pfeil and he accepted. This post is dedicated to him.
In case you do not know about the long illustrious career of Charles:
He is a celebrated Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designer. Here is a news article:
The Printed Circuit Board Association of America (PCBAA) (PCEA) today announced electronics design software architect Charles Pfeil will keynote the PCB West conference and exhibition in October.
Pfeil’s talk, “AI Roadmap for PCB Layout: New Opportunities for PCB Designers,” illustrates the capabilities and methodologies that will be needed for AI success with complex PCB designs, with a focus on constraints, place and route. Success, he says, lies in balancing the growing capabilities of AI with the preservation of proprietary design knowledge and methodologies. His talk will take place October 9 at 11 a.m. at the Santa Clara (CA) Convention Center.
“AI functionality for effective place and route of simple designs is currently available; however, using AI for place and route of complex designs is still in the first stages. But the ultimate goal of AI-driven PCB design tools is to replicate and potentially surpass the capabilities of experienced human designers, particularly for complex designs,” Pfeil notes.

This is all good but what is Charles connection to 15 minute fame fatale Rachel "Raygun" Gunn??
That is simply this:
In Theory There Is No Difference Between Theory and Practice, While In Practice There Is
Please refer to the following article by Charles:
A lifetime designing PCBs: A new beginning
lnkd.in/gayD4jvs
There Charles recounts his experience of designing PCB Software from the deep and wide in-the-trenches experience of a veteran PCB Designer.
You will know once again that:
In Theory There Is No Difference Between Theory and Practice, While In Practice There Is
What it means is simply this:
Simulation Lies, Experience Falters
If you depend on Simulation and Experience for Project Success, then you are simply doomed since:
The Map Is Not The Territory
There is no substitute for:
Verification and Validation
(of your Design)
Rachel "Raygun" Gunn, a PhD on Breakdancing, the top certified breakdancer from Australia, simply could not score a single point in the international stage of the Olympics. The 36-year-old university lecturer lost all three of her Olympic battles, with her green tracksuit and eccentric performance.
Will you dare to parrot Theoretical Musings after my post in your job?
Charles concluded:
I often ponder what the future holds for PCB design software. Most of my work has been to find ways to add automation to tedious design tasks so they can be completed in much less time. Will we develop some game-changing approach to successful design? If so, will I be part of that revolution, or will it be for the next generation to accomplish?
I hope Charles Pfeil adds a rainbow color of his experience to my colorful post.
