The #WestIndies meekly surrendered with the bat to #England in the 1st #Test. Getting bowled out for less than 150 in either innings is never beneficial when it comes to competing in a Test match. Now, how do they turn it around?
Let's face it, they have an inexperienced batting line-up which doesn't know a whole lot about how to deal with swing and seam. But they have to find a way to hang in there and see off the threat, as much as possible.
Collectively, they need to know where their off-stump is. If they make an effort to know where it is, they will be less likely to nick off through to the keeper and the slips. And then, something that is very much in their DNA, has to be curtailed a little bit.
Playing a shot too many is never on, as far as Test cricket goes. The itch to take the bowling on and score a boundary or an over-boundary when there is no real need, suggests how impatient these batters get.
They've got to instill one thing in their minds and that is to score 300 runs in the 1st innings, taking time. There is enough time available than you think in Test cricket the West Indies need to be told that!
It's the good, old saying. In English conditions, leave well, defend more. Know where the off-stump is. That hasn't changed and that doesn't change either!
Application is necessary from the batters. Putting that price tag on themselves is crucial. They've got to give it a good go at this, the #Windies. They've simply got to.
