Thanks to Sustainability Hub Norway (S-HUB) for organizing the Sustainable Finance and Investment Summit, where I spent this morning, and heard panelist Lars Erik Mangset talking about the data needs for reporting and making decisions on investments, granular data, and data that matters. Ocean is a material topic for thousands of companies at the base of the blue economy. Environmental data are needed to assess the double materiality, and most of this data is found in academia. As an ocean data expert, system thinker, and cross-sectoral dialogues facilitator, I want to connect financial institutions with academics that drive the UN Ocean Decade for Sustainable Development. In this post, I’d like to bring your attention to the workshop next week organized during the Ocean Science Meeting in New Orleans. “Designed for ocean data producers, data custodians, decision-makers and industry, this workshop will discuss how to build a trusted, inclusive, and interconnected global ocean data and information system.” We need all voices heard like never before, to produce useful data and systems to access it, to positively impact our future! #OceanDecade Contribution 🌊 Join us on 20 February at the Ocean Science Meeting 2024 for a workshop on the Ocean Decade Data and Information Strategy to help shape the future of global ocean data! 🪸🌐 Designed for ocean data producers, data custodians, decision makers and industry, this workshop will discuss how to build a trusted, inclusive, and interconnected global ocean data and information system. Participants will learn standards and best practices that can be implemented in local environments to align with this strategy and contribute to the data and information ecosystem. We are also seeking inputs from participants on a range of topics, such as (meta)data standards; data provenance and attribution; equitable access; data and resource gaps to fill; and capacity development, to shape the strategy action plan, which will be unveiled at the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference on 10-12 April in Barcelona. 🗓️ 20 Feb, 12:30-14:00 CST ➡️ https://ow.ly/Y92x50Qsbxn #OSM24

" A data consumer should not be a data specialist" - quote heard at the Belgian Data Spaces Day 💥 Earlier this week I had the opportunity to speak at the Belgian Data Spaces day, organised by Agoria. The event mainly focused on the components of a dataspace, ongoing policies supporting dataspaces, the ongoing EU and local initiatives and the impact of data spaces on the Belgian Data Landscape. ⚡ I myself presented shortly on the uses of data spaces in the energy sector and Elia Group´s ongoing scoping with Belgian (energy) partners around the creation of a Belgian Energy Data Space VITO, Fluvius, Flanders Technology & Innovation, Athumi,... 🚀 Overall interesting takeaways from some of the great partners presenting and attending this event: - A dataspace is merely an agreement between parties on how to exchange data - More standards are needed in the data economy, this is currently a killer for services - To create trust you need conscious policy control - The EU targets 1 market for data, cross border & cross sector - A clear business model for data spaces is still needed 💡 Two advanced use cases which stood out were imec´s building block assessment in a mobility use case (https://lnkd.in/dCfEyWbf) and Digitaal Vlaanderen´s mobility use case (https://lnkd.in/dxz_JuNS). Thanks to Agoria (Jelle Hoedemaekers and others) for the incredible organisation of the event filled with knowledgeable speakers. I will be looking forward to next year´s edition! #agoria #Dataspaces #EU #Eliagroupinnovation Michiel Verbeeck, Valentina Annoscia, Olivier Goethals, Sandrine Van der Linden, @Annick Vastiau, Loïc Tilman, Manuel Gálvez, Ingrid Croket, Ben Bosmans, Simon Claus, Griet Heuvelmans, Dorien Bauwens, Boud Verbeiren, Victoria van der Enden, Kris Laermans, Herman Carstens

Data enthusiast with a clear eye on value creation. Committed to board work and the results cooperation creates.
Two days, one room and heaps of inspiration. Data ecosystems may sound abstract but it is really about joining forces and create value from data. Thank you María Elena López Reyes, Ashraf Shaharudin, Bastiaan van Loenen, Birger Larsen for making your learnings from the Copenhagen workshop on Data Ecosystems and SDI public. Thanks´ to all participants for making this workshop a succes✨ #sdfi #Eurosdr #geoforum #dataecosystem #spatialdata #dataerdejlige
In December 2023, part of the ODECO team participated in a workshop on 'Data Ecosystems and Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI)' in Copenhagen. The workshop was hosted by the Danish Agency for Data Supply and Infrastructure, EuroSDR, KU Leuven, Delft University of Technology, IGN France, and DAFAGO. My colleague, Ashraf Shaharudin, and I attended the workshop and shared our research insights. Our supervisors, Bastiaan van Loenen and Birger Larsen, also joined us, and we had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with representatives from local and national authorities, European organisations, and researchers from various domains. We thank the event organisers, particularly Ulla Kronborg Mazzoli, for making this workshop successful. You can read about our learnings in the ODECO blog by following the link. #ODECOProject #DataEcosystems #SpatialDataInfrastructure #Innovation #DataSharing #OpenDataIntermediaries #CommunityEngagement

United for One Vision ✨ – Shaping the Future of a Digital Industry Together! What an inspiring week! I had the privilege to participate in a panel discussion at the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz, diving deep into the topic of "Scaling Industrial Data Ecosystems." A big thank you to my discussion partners Dr. Annika Hauptvogel, Ludwig von Reiche and Nico Hartmann for such an engaging and insightful discussion. Industrial data ecosystems not only increase the efficiency and resilience of production, but also create new business models and value creation potential for companies. Our task is to convince our existing customers of the added value of these ecosystems just as convincingly as we used to convince them to buy a machine tool. It's about making data ecosystems the next "must-have" in industrial operations. 👉 To achieve this, we need to play an active role in shaping industry standards. This requires close collaboration between the right people, the right talents, and of course, strong partnerships.
