Happy (belated) Presidents Day to all my friends and family in the US! Over 20 years ago, on a random AM channel in the middle of the night during a road trip, I stumbled upon these fascinating similarities between Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy, and they've stuck with me ever since. As someone who fancies themselves a bit of a US presidential history buff, I'm always on the lookout for more intriguing facts. So, here are five striking parallels that caught my attention: 📅 Election to Congress: Lincoln in 1846, Kennedy in 1946. A century apart, but both stepping into national politics in a year ending with a 6. 🏛️ Election as President: 1860 for Lincoln, 1960 for Kennedy. Exactly 100 years apart, each leading to transformative presidencies. 🤝 Successors Named Johnson: Both were succeeded by vice presidents named Johnson from the South - Andrew for Lincoln and Lyndon B. for Kennedy. 🔎 Assassins Known by Three Names: John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald, both remembered with three names, totaling fifteen letters each. 📖 Special Committees for Their Deaths: The aftermath of their assassinations led to the establishment of special committees to investigate - the Warren Commission for Kennedy and the Military Commission for Lincoln. I find these coincidences between two of America's most iconic leaders absolutely mind-blowing. But I'm curious—what am I missing? What other fascinating tidbits are out there about US presidents that you love? Let's dive into the history together! #presidentsday #ushistory #historybuff
