GERMANS BOUGHT AROUND 1 BILLION ITEMS OF SHOES & CLOTHING FROM PLATFORMS LIKE SHEIN IN 2023: Analysis by the Germen BTE Trade Association found in 2023, German consumers bought around one billion items from non-European platforms like Shein and Temu. An estimated 400,000 packages from Shein and Temu are shipped to Germany daily, often bypassing traditional foreign trade statistics. NOTE - Apparel Insider believes trade statistics across the Western world are not counting direct-to-consumer purchases from Asia, greatly distorting trade figures. The shift in Germany has significantly impacted the local market. Domestic supply dropped to 3.514 billion garments and 266 million pairs of shoes in 2023, from 4.457 billion garments and 413 million pairs in 2022 - a 22% decrease. BTE claims many direct-to-consumer imports from Asia don’t meet EU standards and could pose health risks. They are now advocating for stricter import controls to ensure consumer safety and fair competition. #RetailTrends #ImportRegulations #shein OUR STORY: https://lnkd.in/ekjrbydy

This not only validates our efforts but also serves as encouragement for our team's continuous improvement. 🌟🎉 👩💼 Millie, the procurement director of a British #WomensWear company, often complained to her friends about the inefficiency and inconsistency of her previous suppliers, which frequently disrupted their production and sales plans. 🤦♂️ Upon her friend's recommendation (also our loyal client), she was introduced to us. Throughout our collaboration, Millie found communication with JBT to be seamless and effortless. 😊 Understanding the challenges posed by #InternationalTrade time zones, we go above and beyond to accommodate our client's needs, even working late into the night when necessary. 🌏 We provide diverse solutions for clients to choose from, as Millie puts it: '𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙅𝘽𝙏 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙚-𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨, 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙔𝙀𝙎 𝙤𝙧 𝙉𝙊, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢.' Our commitment to efficient and timely service helps clients navigate the challenges of production smoothly. 🚀🔧 Millie's decision has proven to be wise. Across multiple orders, our consistent quality, punctual delivery, and attentive service have alleviated her concerns about #labels and #tags quality. ✅ 👉 👉 What qualities do you admire most in your suppliers? Do you also dislike the 'toothpaste squeezing' style of communication? Many thanks to Devin Steele and the Southern Textile Association for inviting me last week to address the membership (and what a great membership!) about the current market situation and provide some scenarios for the market going forward. The meeting was held in Greenville, SC. Could there be signs of light in the U.S. apparel market? Don’t break out the champagne just yet, but there are some encouraging signs. Retail apparel sales are up in early 2024, compared to 2023 levels, while inventory-to-sales ratios are also up slightly to support improved off-take. Further, the inflation rates for apparel are unchanged from year-ago levels, despite the fact that aggregate retail inflation is up for other products. And then there are imports of apparel, which are lower in January 2024 compared to January 2023, but the decline is much less than we’ve seen in previous months. As imports dominate the U.S. apparel market, import trends are a good indicator of market conditions. Indeed, with the release of the January 2024 data, it seems the market is less bad than it has been, with single-digit declines compared to the double-digit declines we’ve seen throughout 2023. Further, it may be a sign of the market gaining its footing. Please have a look at my presentation, attached below. #textiles #apparel #clothing #retail #demand #imports #consumers #markets #sourcing #madeinusa

Counsel at Luther. | Country Head Vietnam | Vice-Chair of the EuroCham Legal Sector Committee (Vietnam)
🎯 Sourcing ambitions 🛒 🧲 Walmart, Amazon, Miniso and other global retailers are looking to source more products from Vietnamese suppliers. 🗣️ Aly Ansari, senior director of sourcing at Walmart, said at an export forum held Thursday as part of the Vietnam International Sourcing Expo that the country is among the company’s most important supply markets in Asia. 🤝🏼 Walmart seeks to cooperate on a larger scale and explore opportunities to source many more products from it, he said. 👕 Walmart now sells Vietnamese fashion products, electronics and toys in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Chile, and China. 👀 Ansari said the company is looking for more suppliers of toys and foods. 💬 Gijae Seong, director of Amazon Global Selling Vietnam, said diversifying and expanding the portfolio of made-in-Vietnam products is among the key focuses. 📈 The volume of Vietnamese goods sold on Amazon has increased by more than 300%, with health and personal care, home, apparel, and beauty products being the top-selling categories. 🎯"We are looking for more products." 🇨🇳 Chinese retailer Miniso, which has more than 6,600 stores in 110 markets, also plans to expand tie-ups with Vietnamese suppliers. 📍 Some smaller retailers have also expressed interests in sourcing from Vietnam. 🇲🇽 Coppel, with over 1,000 stores in Mexico and Argentina, is selling a small number of Vietnamese furniture products on its platform and has been looking for more suppliers in the last two years. 👟 This year its managers are meeting with 20 potential suppliers of footwear products. 💭 "We love the quality and design of Vietnamese products but prices are a little too high", Jennifer Yuriko Patton Inukai, director of Asia purchasing at Coppel, said. 🔁 Coppel is looking for Vietnamese goods to sell in Mexico because both countries are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). 🌲 Hoang Cong Trang, CEO of dairy producer TH Group, said there are new standards and regulations in the Europe for carbon emissions and anti-deforestation, and buyers therefore take these factors into account when choosing a supplier. 🧮 Vietnam’s exports rose 15% year-on-year to $156.5 billion in the first five months, official data shows. . https://lnkd.in/gKgJqA8Z

Quick follow-up to my recent article on stagnating clothing consumption in Europe https://lnkd.in/eACQbqJg As part of a stakeholder workshop on future EU textile regulation the European Commission published a slide which shows EU apparel consumption on a timeline from 1995 to 2022. Exactly as I described in my article it shows basically a stagnant total consumption in volumes since 2005, despite a slight (3%) total EU population growth. It shows a surge in consumption when the Multifibre Arrangement (MFA) was finally phased out in 2005 and cheap imports from Asia surged while EU production fell. However that growth didn’t last and since then consumption has flatlined, fluctuating with economic cycles and we know already that 2023 was a down year again. Studies that show growth typically pick a starting point before 2005 (probably not accidentally). It demonstrates that the cheap & fast fashion phenomenon was greatly enabled by an EU policy decision (to open the market for unconstrained imports) and that we now try to deal with the consequences through different regulation. People may point out that direct imports from the likes of Shein are not captured in this data, which is true. But they are a very recent phenomenon and didn’t play any significant role up to about 2020. If they will deliver consistently cheaper prices, they may have a volume effect, but still probably rather take market share from other retailers, as many recent store closures and bankruptcies attest to. If you are interested in the whole presentation and other materials from the stakeholder workshop, you find them here: https://lnkd.in/ec3eRkhH #apparelconsumption #textileindustry
