Tiger Woods is in a trademark dispute with PUMA Group, fighting over the rights to his new "Sunday Red" logo. While Tiger's logo "TW" logo was one of the strongest and most recognizable in sports during his Nike days, the catch? He didn’t own it. This is a powerful reminder: always own your intellectual property. Whether you’re an athlete, creator, or brand, control over your #IP is critical for long-term equity and flexibility. Tiger’s story is a cautionary tale for all of us—build your #brand, but make sure the foundation is yours. Who else do you think has mastered owning their IP? #marketing #sports #apparel #retail #golf

Tiger Woods' golf brand, Sun Day Red, is facing a trademark opposition from Puma over its tiger-themed logos, which Puma argues are too similar to its iconic leaping cat logo. Puma claims these marks could confuse consumers and dilute its brand's strength in the athletic and sports industries. This is the second trademark challenge for Sun Day Red, following an earlier opposition from Tigeraire, as the brand carves its path in the competitive golf market. The case underscores how even globally recognized names must navigate trademark disputes, raising important questions about balancing creativity and brand protection. #Trademarks #TigerWoods #Puma

Marketing and Mishaps: Lessons from Puma's Cucurella Slip-Up In the world of #SportsMarketing, few things are more exciting than unveiling the next big product or signing a new #Ambassador. And yet, as #Puma’s recent adventure with #MarcCucurella’s $220 boots demonstrates, even the best-laid #Marketing strategies can slip—sometimes quite literally. Let’s dive into this dramatic own goal with a pinch of #Sarcasm and a lot of hindsight: 1-The #$220 Price Tag and the Unwanted #Slip Discount: #Marketing101: Highlight the premium features of your #Product. Reality: When your $220 boots turn into a slippery slope for #Cucurella—TWICE in a single match—suddenly, #Durability and #Performance seem questionable. Was this the soft launch of Puma’s new #SkatingShoes collection? 2-Big-Money #Ambassadors Need Big #Stability: Signing #StarAthletes for brand #Credibility? A brilliant move! Except when your #Ambassador changes boots mid-game because, apparently, “#Traction” wasn’t part of the design specs. 3-InfluencerMarketing Meets the Bin Cycle: Deleting a #Photo after it becomes #Meme fodder? Classic #DamageControl. But let’s be real—this only amplified the #Buzz. Ironically, this could qualify as “#Virality,” but at what cost to the brand’s #Reputation? 4-#HistoryRepeatsItself, and Not Kindly: Remember #Adidas and the “All-In” campaign that flopped when #NBA star #DerrickRose got injured in their #Shoes? Puma’s latest mishap joins a long list of #MarketingMisfires. Lesson: #ProductTesting under extreme conditions is not optional. 5-Type of Marketing Used? #Experiential (#ForTheFans, Not Puma): While Puma likely aimed for #Lifestyle and #PerformanceMarketing, this turned into an unplanned #ExperientialCampaign for fans—showcasing exactly what not to buy. 6-A Missed Chance for Humorous #DamageControl: Instead of quietly scrubbing the evidence, imagine if Puma leaned into the #Humor: “#Cucurella slipped, but we won’t let you fall. Free upgrades for all buyers!” A little #SelfDeprecatingHumor could have turned this disaster into an opportunity. 7-#Collaboration Dreams Now Feel Like #Nightmares: Imagine #Tottenham’s groundkeepers ringing Puma: “Did you design this boot for #Grass or #Marble?” An #AmbassadorProduct misalignment this glaring can tarnish not just one game, but an entire #MarketingSeason. The moral of the story? Before you launch your next big #Product with a #StarAthlete, double-check the #Specs, the #Pitch, and maybe, just maybe, the #Traction. Because when it comes to #SportsMarketing, the world is watching—closely. What are your thoughts on how Puma handled this? Would #Humor have saved the day, or was this a #FallFromGrace too steep to recover? Let’s discuss! 🚀👟 #puma #adidas #shoes #sportshoes #sportsmarketing #sportsbusiness #football #chelsea #spurs #influencermarketing #product #business #london

Well, here we are - 25+ years in business, 21,000+ orders processed, and over 1,000,000 logos applied—and finally, we’ve hit the pinnacle of branding... on a horse’s hood! (And yes, it’s definitely a hood, not a hat. I learned that lesson very quickly from Sam England Racing.) Apparently, this particular horse has been hinting for ages that it needed an upgrade. Who knew equine fashion was so demanding? Sam was absolutely sure that decking out her team (and horse) in some fresh branded gear would boost performance by at least 10x. After all, when you look good, you feel good, right? So, how’s your team performing? Now, I’m not saying you need to put your employees in hoods (although if you do, please send photos). But maybe it’s time to consider a small investment in some polos or fleeces? What do you think—worth a shot? 🐴👕 #Branding #TeamWear #EquineFashion #BusinessHumor #PerformanceBoost #InvestInYourTeam #CustomApparel #Workwear #HoodNotHat #FirstTimeForEverything

🚨 Marketing Campaign Fail: Puma's Misstep with Marc Cucurella's New Boots ⚽ In a surprising twist for Puma's new Future 8 boots, the sportswear giant's latest marketing campaign has been met with criticism after Marc Cucurella debuted the shoes in Chelsea's 4-3 win against Tottenham on December 8th, 2024. Despite the boots being advertised for "Ultimate Precision, Adaptability, and Performance," Cucurella slipped twice within the first few minutes of the game, which led to Tottenham's early goals. The mishaps forced the player to switch to his older Future 7 boots just 11 minutes into the match. The campaign's cheeky messaging—hidden on the heel of the Future 8 boots—read, "This boot might be leaked. We're used to it. Don’t worry. Stay tuned." This playful element backfired when Cucurella’s performance didn’t match the high claims of the product. 🥴 📉 As a result, Puma faced negative reactions, and Cucurella took to social media, apologizing for his choice of boots. His post, showing the discarded boots in a bin, was quickly deleted, but the damage had already been done. The marketing strategy aimed to push these new boots as a breakthrough product, but this incident has significantly dented Puma’s reputation, with some reports indicating a drop in sales and consumer confidence due to the on-field performance failure. For brands, this serves as a reminder that real-world performance matters just as much as flashy marketing, especially in the world of sports. It’s crucial to ensure that the product matches the promises made in a campaign. Do you think Puma should admire this mistake and create a fun marketing campaign where they humorously acknowledge the failure? Let's discuss! 👇 #BeyondThe90 #Marketing #Branding #Sportswear #EPL #Puma #Football #MarcCucurella #CampaignFail #ChelseaFC #ProductPerformance #JoinTheConversation

🔥So, in a span of one week, we've learned of: 1️⃣ 𝗝𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿's "rebranding" to [presumably] "hip" [designer of fashion? producer of juicers for #GenZ? - I dunno, go figure]; 2️⃣ 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗰's entry into Formula 1 as the 11th team. 👉In both cases, #corporates and their #marketing departments demonstrated an utter disconnect with the respective brands' roots and "inner selves". (I'm sure they had good intentions - I'm not sure they knew and 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 their products the way their ancestors did). 🧐It would make more sense if Caddy launched an exclusively electric sub-brand to capture the #demographic that's usually not their #consumer group, and Jag re-entered #F1 to revive the interest towards "sporty respectability". ✋️Everybody would debate (still) the effectiveness of such moves, but 𝘢𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 the logic would be there. (Pfff... But what do I know? I only spent my formative corporate years at two of the world's most recognizable brand powerhouses🙄. Must be getting rusty). #cars #autoindustry #brands #branding #racing #sports
