Dear reader, It is the ‘last’ business week of the year. However, writing this first sentence feels a bit paradoxical. There are many people working in 24/7 industries who rarely experience this feeling of ‘rounding things up’. They work during Christmas and New Year’s Eve to ensure us that we can count on them, while we enjoy the holidays with our beloved ones. This matter brings me to the point of taking things for granted. Sometimes - and perhaps even more than we would like - we take things in life to granted for the sake of that ‘it is just the way it is’. When looking at those 24/7 industries there are a lot of misassumptions. For example, many people do not know, or only have a vague idea, what a data center is and what people are doing in these buildings (e.g., taking care of servers so everything is up and running). People have the tendency to believe that the Internet is ‘just there’. However, misassumptions like this increases the feeling of ignorance and - even worse - can potentially harm our life on the long term. Although Datacentered is ‘just a magazine’, I encourage you all to think about these people during the holidays while you watch a (new) serie on Netflix or any other streaming platform. I encourage you to think how important these silent heroes are. I wish you all the best for 2025. Kind regards, Pim Kokke

As another year comes to a close, it’s time to press pause, reflect, and recharge. At nelex, we know that taking a step back is just as important as moving forward. That’s why we’ll be taking a break over Christmas, closing from noon today, Wednesday, 18 December 2024, and returning refreshed on Monday, 6 January 2025. This downtime isn’t just about rest. It’s about planning for what’s ahead. Future-proofing your business starts with taking a moment to reflect on your journey so far. What worked well? What could be done differently? Use this break to gain clarity and set the stage for a successful new year. We’re looking forward to reconnecting in 2025 and helping you turn your reflections into actionable plans. Until then, enjoy the rest of the year!

So, here we are—first full business week of 2025. You survived New Year’s Eve on a Tuesday, which was weird, right? Like, New Year’s Eve was sitting there, just off-center, like that one guy in the meeting who speaks too close to the mic. "Let’s party! But, uh, don’t forget you’ve got work in the morning… Thursday is coming." And what about last week? What even was last week? Monday was the "calm before the champagne storm." Tuesday? Total chaos—fireworks, resolutions, everyone pretending they’ll eat kale for breakfast. By Wednesday, half of us were back at work, Googling "Can you return unopened party hats?" Then Thursday hits, and it’s like, "Is this a real workday, or are we just here to check Slack and make it look like we’re doing something?" Emails started trickling in on Friday, like the universe whispering, ‘You thought you had more time. You were wrong.’ But now—now it's Monday. A real, honest-to-God Monday. Full steam ahead! New year, new quarter, new... anxiety about all the things you didn’t do last year. You can feel it, right? The collective sigh of humanity: "Guess we’re doing this again." And everyone’s back on their A-game. Emails flying, calendars filling up. But hey, it’s 2025! The future is here! We’ve got AI, self-driving cars, and yet somehow, Karen still can’t figure out how to attach a PDF. Some things never change. So here’s to us, diving into another busy year. Let’s crush it! Or at least survive it. And if nothing else, we’re only 51 weeks away from doing this all over again. #hipthers

Happy 2025! What a project this is going to be! See what I did there? If you know, you know. Wow, ’24 flew past. Usually New Year’s Eve is that time to reflect on the previous year. Not me, it’s today! Why? ‘Cause I did this Monday 12/30/24. For me 2024 was a good year. I hope yours was also. Highlights: 🗓️ Moved to a new office. I feel more focused here. I know I’m more productive, that’s a win in any book. 🗓️I escaped the social media time suck. After the shot that almost took Trump out of the game, I decided I needed to take a break. I knew it was going to get worse, and it did. So glad I left. 🗓️Kelly and I focused on experiences instead of stuff. It’s more important than ever that we spend time with the ones we love. I know we did a lot of that in ’24. And in January, we are starting the year doing the same. As you look back, focus on the positive not the negative. There is nothing you can do to change it. Learn from it and use that positive to push you forward. Did you see the 3 lessons up there? Bet you missed them. If you caught them, tell me what you think they were. Have a great 2025, Kids & thanks for reading. #careergrowth #recruiting #personalgrowth #goals #HappyNewYear

🎉 The First Official Business Week of 2025 is Done! 🎉 How’s everyone doing with their New Year’s resolutions? I hope you haven’t given up just yet! For many of us, this week was both exciting and overwhelming—especially for those easing back into work after the holiday season. Personally, I love weekends because they give me a chance to reflect on the week that’s passed—my wins, my losses, and everything in between. This year, I encourage you to make continuous self-check-ins a habit. Regularly reflecting on your progress allows you to catch yourself if you’re heading in the wrong direction, so you can adjust before walking too many miles down the wrong path. Small course corrections can make a big difference in achieving your goals! Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with rest, reflection, and recharging. Let’s keep building momentum for a successful 2025! 🚀

Today's reading was on time usage which I thought was interesting since I haven't made posting on LinkedIn a priority the last 4-5 days. Sullivan makes a strong case that rejuvenation is the most important usage of time. The more of a high performer you are, the more rejuvenation you need. Sullivan takes 180 days off a year. He pointed to Lebron James sleeping up to 12 hours a day during his season. Bill Gates used to leave his company for weeks at a time, completely detached, to think of the next big jump for Microsoft. The point is that we all need recovery. Research shows that recovery is essential for flow and increased high performance. The method to ensure you take recovery seriously is to get your "Free Days" on the calendar at the beginning of the year first. You must make them a priority or you'll allow your 2x thinking to get in the way. The second part of making recovery effective is surrounding yourself with the right people (first and foremost) and materials. This time shouldn't be work at another place. This time should be true psychological detachment where you detach completely from work-related thoughts (day-to-day work). "Free days" are for exploring and that's where your 10x ideas usually show up. How good are you at giving yourself free days? Could you calendar the rest of your year out today to make them a priority? I'm reading, "10x is Easier than 2x."

Why Your Q4 Strategy Is A Matrix-Level Lie (And The One Thing That Could Save Your 2024..and 2025) Watching The Matrix with my teenage son this weekend hit different. Here we are, staring down the barrel of November, with the holiday hibernation season breathing down our necks. And just like Neo facing that red pill moment, it's time for some uncomfortable truth about your business. We've got what – maybe 6-7 weeks before your team mentally checks out for the holidays? Before your LinkedIn feed becomes an endless stream of office party photos and "Year in Review" humble brags? So here's your red pill moment, founder: What's the single most important thing your business needs to accomplish before you're forced to swallow the blue pill of holiday slowdown? Maybe it's that website refresh you've been putting off while your competitors eat your lunch. Maybe it's finally documenting those career paths you've been dangling in front of your team like a digital carrot. Hell, maybe it's finally getting that valuation done or showing that C-player the door they should've found months ago. "But surely I can knock out multiple priorities before year-end?" I hear you protest, still plugged into that growth-at-all-costs Matrix that's turned you into a corporate battery, powering a machine of your own making. Wrong, Mr. Anderson. Here's the real truth: You can either stay plugged into the Matrix, chasing multiple priorities and ending up with a bunch of half-finished projects, or you can focus on the One Thing that actually moves the needle. Pick your One Thing. Unplug from everything else. Execute with the kind of focus that would make Morpheus proud. Get that One Thing done, and then – if you've still got juice left before the holiday eggnog kicks in – sure, tackle something else. But not before. The Oracle has already made the prophecy: 2025 is coming. The question is, will you face it having accomplished the One Thing that matters, or will you still be stuck in the Matrix of mediocrity, juggling priorities like Agent Smith dodges bullets? Time to swallow that red pill, founder. What's your One Thing?
