Is it best to sell now or wait until after the election to get the best price for your property in the UK? To explore this further, we examined the impact of the past six elections on prices in the housing market. We found that the average price growth in the three months leading up to an election was 2.2%, while the three months following showed similar growth at 2.1%. Indeed, price growth in the three months following an election only outperformed the preceding period in two out of the last six elections (2015 and 2019). So, waiting until after the election to put your property on the market, in the hope of achieving a higher price, could actually be a risky strategy.
