Yesterday was a tough day for me and my colleagues at LinkedIn. The role reduction in my immediate team has left incredibly talented people out of jobs. Q4 is in full effect, so I'm going to let you all in on some industry secrets. If you're considering making a career change, now is the time. For one thing, a lot of companies have money left in their hiring budgets that they want to utilize. And a la The 40 Year Old Virgin, yes, it is true that "if you don't use it, you lose it." Money left on the table this year often means less money in the budget the following, so those hiring have extra incentive. You may be thinking, nah, I'll just ride out this year and start my search come January. But pointer number two is that everyone and their mother starts their search after the first of the year. New year, new you and all that. But why wait? If you start now, you'll get a jump on all those resolution resumes and you can be sipping cider and enjoying paid holiday time come November/December.
